Does the M4 look too ordinary?
My mate was in his mk3 focus RS, sitting next to one at traffic lights. He said he didn't even realise it was an M4 until it left him for dead.
I didn't believe a 'car guy' wouldn't realise it wasn't an M4, but it seems I was wrong! If i'm honest, they do look quite similar to a normal 4 series.

The question is such stealth a good or a bad thing?ben g wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2017 12:08 am My mate was in his mk3 focus RS, sitting next to one at traffic lights. He said he didn't even realise it was an M4 until it left him for dead.

I can except ordinary looking form and Audi, cos I don't like em much any way. But I quite like BM's, so a few machine guns, to back up the speed, would fit my brief.

too sedate in standard guise for my liking. I think they're gorgeous but they lack a little wow factor for me (although it comes back with some of the slightly modded ones I've seen)
If I'm spending that sort of money I want something that's the whole package rather than something I look at in the driveway and think 'yeah that's alright'.

I dunno, I have some sympathy - as a car guy, I've largely given up with keeping track of modern BMWs; there's far too many variants.ben g wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2017 12:08 am My mate was in his mk3 focus RS, sitting next to one at traffic lights. I prefer the M3 CP ... more subtle and less around. The black M3 badge of the CP is all I need
Current : BMW M240i Convertible in black and a Smart Fortwo diesel in white

I do understand the attraction of understated cars, but that goes too far. It really doesn't look like a >£60k car In Competition Spec.
I've not seen one on the road, or if I have I didn't register it as being special.

Funny that as I see 6 on my 3 mile commute to work. Ok, maybe not....
Had a really good look at these before getting the Cayman. Just not special enough for me, M2 is also similar in that respect. The M3 does have better looks but it doesn't feel like a "special build" car like the old M cars and Z4M.

Upside of this is there will be thousands of them on the second hand market in a few years time. Ready for bargain performance hunters to snap up.Havard wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2017 10:39 pmFunny that as I see 6 on my 3 mile commute to work. Ok, maybe not....

Already loads have come off PCP...
I was offered one off a trader friend a couple of weeks ago.. It was white and had low 20's miles with half decent spec for £30k....

I looked at a few M4's and liked them, I was at a dealership so I had to leave right away before I did something silly.
One of the joys of having an M car is "blending in" with the regular traffic. Only the "car" people will see an M and immediately identify it ....the police on the other hand rarely notice. I've had a trooper shake his fist at me from the side of the road simply because I was driving my shiny black Z3 down the freeway, in heavy traffic and at the speed limit. No-one ever did that to my M3.

Its a marvel of modern technology.
But there isnt anything exciting about it, in the looks department, sound and drive. When I had a go it felt like a faster 335D, sounded bad but the torque was crazy but you cant ring them out because your done before the end of 2nd.
Its too effortless and not very involved. I dont think its the turbo engine its just lost the M character they arent special cars they are mass produced for everyone instead of being for the enthusiast.
Unfortunately the M division is a victim of modern marketing.
Plus every man and his dog has one and the residuals arent worth entertaining.
