new brake rotors and pads!

Post by mystik » Fri Apr 24, 2009 7:45 am

so it was just about that time. yup... that time to replace the brakes AND the damn rotors. what did i do? i decided to do it myself. so i bought some cross drilled rotors and new pads. i spent about two hours with a buddy of mine installing the new parts. now.. they look good. i saved myself tons of money... how? doin' it myself*

old rotors. the rears were so worn.. i cant use them anymore. (the left ones were on the front. the right ones.. you can see a small ring around the outside showing how worn they are)

Good work.

I have mine to do at some stage, might get them done this Saturday but my M-sport seats will probably get my attention :D

It's a fairly easy job to do, all you need to do now is paint the calpiers to finish the job off. :poke:

RichardG,

i wouldnt even know what color to paint the calipers. i like my color scheme (white & tan) so i want a color that would compliment the ride. any suggestions would be great, though! i was thinking of red.. but iono.

cj10jeeper,

i opted for rotors from this company called TriNet Motorsports. they do other designs and their prices don't break the piggy bank, either. (http://www.trinetmotorsports.com). as for the pads.. i bought them from bavauto.com. they're from pagid.

Mr Whippy, aka Dave,

thank you

Go easy on 'em for about 200 miles. You'll be able to feel when they're good and ready.

Nice! Those rotors look sharp. Agreed, that the process is not difficult to change your own pads/rotors. The problem I had when changing mine was with the center bolt, which was rusted on really bad. I eventually gave up and took it to a shop. So yes, glad to hear that you were able to do the work yourself and save some money!

After 200 miles or so, be sure to follow the brake bedding procedure from zeckhausen.com to fully maximize your pedal feel.

we had to take a hammer and just smack that sucking rotor off. all you heard were loud ass clangs! we sprayed a bit of wd40 on the rust around the rim of the rotor in hopes that it would help. iono if it did though, honestly

mystik I think your only colour choice would be silver, if I ever did mine that is what colour I would use, dont really want to attract attention to them and keeps them stock.
