Engine bay cleaning
Great post and impressive results...thank you. I'm picking up our new G29 next week so expect the engine bay to be almost spotless but would appreciate advice on proactive treatment now that will make future cleaning and detailing easier; i.e. to make it resistant to oil & grime. I've stocked up on premium cleaning products (yep...OCD) so think I'm all set: could use a few dos and don'ts, though. Thanks in anticipation.

It can pay when using any product you're unfamiliar with to test it somewhere inconspicous first. I bought some Turtle Wax Jet Black Endura-Shine Trim Coating and tried it on the E85's fuse box - it was like applying a streaky watery paint, and left marks extremely difficult to fix. I should have tried it on a smaller area to find out what it was like, and perhaps learnt a different method to apply it better. In the end I used CRC Plastic & Rubber Doctor which goes on like a paste and has a much more even and lasting finish. Lesson learned but very annoying at the time.Michael181294 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 3:49 am Great post and impressive results...thank you. I use Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care as my last product. It stays shiny and rinses off with a de-greaser (so when it gets covered in oil and grime it should just wash off).
Current: Still thinking...

The best product I've used over the years is Meguairs Endurance Tyre shine on the plastic bits in the engine bay.

Thank you. Advice much appreciated. The G29 is sitting in the garage just having done its 100th mile. Inshallah, if it stays dry tomorrow it’ll get its first wash and protective coat.

I've been around a long old time, and used lots of products, but nothing works better for me than this stuff:

I have just been using built hambers sufex hd at a 1.5% dilution rate. Then a quick wipe down.
My engine bay is pretty clean but if it wasn't I am sure I would just go with a stronger dilute of 5%+
I am sure other APC's would do the same job.

Hi Hebbs,
Looks amazing! Makes all the difference and to be fair makes you check pipes/hoses for splits. Here’s my before and after pics.

What a great job. Hoping to achieve something similar next week. Previously owned a mk2.5 mx5 and seemed to spend most of my time under battling rust.
2.0 m sport (suspension / steering wheel/scuff plates) cupholders sapphire black with factory hard top. Needs a little tlc but loving it.

Had a clean today, I used Autoglym engine & machine cleaner followed by Autoglym vinyl & rubber care. The compartment wasn't particularly dirty to start with but I'm happy with the results. Also had the wheels off and did the arch liners as well.

Looks nice Umfaan.
Is there any performance benefit to the intake modification you have made?

I believe the main benefit is to ones ear, when she breaths in and sounds like a Lioness instead of a moggy.Jfgoldfish wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 2:11 pmLooks nice Umfaan.

I thought that would be the case. The 2.0 could do with a bit more of a bitey noise sometimes.
