I have had this engine in a 2017 330 Touring which I bought new and it’s a peach. Consumption wise I averaged about 45/47 mpg. Torque is excellent which means overtaking is a joy. Like all Diesel engines you need to be sure it has been properly serviced with requisite oil changes. I had no problems in 30,000 miles.

Likewise I've had that engine in a different BMW and it's great
But I don't really understand why anyone would choose an X4/6 over the equivalent X3/5

Its his wife think she prefers the chelsea tractor look over a perhaps more suitable touring.
Regarding x3 ,x5 thats exactly my thoughts of which I have told him to look at the x3think the x5 is a bit large for his needs.

I have had both the 330d and the 335d and they are brilliant engines with bags of torque. I never had a single problem with either and covered around 50k in both.

Price up the tyres, brakes, fuel, servicing etc and then see if she's happy paying double for a lesser carsw4nny wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 2:31 pmthanks for that Ive tried talking him into a 330d touring but his missus is having non of it.IRD wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 1:53 pm I have had this engine in a 2017 330 Touring which I bought new and it’s a peach. Maybe it depends who is going to be driving it most of the time!
Personally I'd much prefer a 330d Touring but if it's his missus who is going to be using it that is never going to be an option.
Although I'd still prefer an X3/5 to any X4/6.
Still it sounds like they are all pretty trouble free.
Coupes because stunning!

I have a mate who had that engine in a 2017 530D tourer which is probably about the same weight as an X4; he was constantly complaining that he was getting 35mpg average.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

BMW X4 3.0D 2017,
I’ve had an X3 from new ... it’s now six years old and has 65k on it
It’s been absolutely faultless apart from two recalls and a broken rear spring
Quality wise I think it’s more on a par with a 5 series than a 3 series
It’s not as agile nor as quick as a 3 ... but it’s such a complete package that does everything so well .. hence why I’ve kept it
Parts and tyres wise it’s no more expensive than a 3 series ..( I had a 3 touring as well until recently )
They are a car that’s more than the sum of its parts if that makes sense
