Post by Rucky » Fri Oct 29, 2021 11:53 am

There are a lot of wheel refurb specialists appearing - just wondering if anyone has direct experience of a Powder Coating specialist in Bristol / Chepstow outlying areas who has done a very good job.

Actually wantng my X5 staggered wheels recoated ( 367 I believe) and then my Z4 108's

Any recommendations and guide prices please?

Worth thinking about a trip up to the cheap and cheerful Birmingham guys.

£400+ for a set around here (Bristol area).

£120 ish up there - perfectly decent quality. If you've a way to transport both sets to/fro then you'll be laughing.

Second this, plus if you can work remotely for a day or enjoy the delights of Brum… they do a same day service for £35 per wheel if no tires fitted (not for spilt rims though- unless you’ve split them yourself)

I’m taking a set of 107’s in next week as have a business meeting there, so cheaper to pay for ‘same day’ than make two trips

So I went with Wheel Specialists in Avonmouth as they are a half mile from Costco and I was buying a New Set of Michelins from them at the same time. ( 2x 255/50x19 and 2 x 285/45 x 19 = £620 fitted)

Costco did warn me that they could not be held responsible if the paint came off during fitting but as it was the fitting was perfect - as always.

It was just under £400 and Wheel specialists took the tyres off for me,
They went in on a Wed and came out on the Fri - so it was a very quick turnaround.
The car could not be booked in until the New Year so i opted for the loose wheel option which was best endeavors to process them in a week or so.

Overall quality is good, bit of orange peel in the bolt recesses but generally good as new.

I also replaced the 4 TMPS Valve Stems for £14 rather than theirs at £12 ea but then theirs is a business

But I did get charged an additional £28 for tyre duisposal which was not mentioned at the quotation stage.

I accept it might be cheaper in the midlands but then then that would have been 8 trips in the Z4 to ferry them up and back 2 at a time! and about 800mikes, - So no real saving.
As it was I took the wheels off the X5 and ferried them 2 at a time to the Wheel and tyre locations.

I also had a quote for the Z4 108's
Again its £400 a set for the refurb plus another £130 for Splitting rims and reassembling plus any bolts that need to be replaced apparently.

They were happy to do split rims and were not overly concerned about seized bolys.
Might give it a go in the spring when the Michelins on the Z4 will need replacing.

X5 is now looking good as new!
