For me though I'd want to be tracking it and from what I've read the .1 gen engines have an unpleasant habit of going bang under hard usage on track, hence the redesigned valve train for .2. Did they not do a 7 year warranty or something on these engines after the original batch caught fire? There's about 6 or so revisions so far by Porsche to this engine from what I have read

So, this bad boy turned up last week.....wowzers, what a weapon this thing is. It really feels like a race car that you can drive on the road. The motor is a masterpiece and there are some similarities to the S54 in that it can sound like a bag of marbles at lower speeds, but once you get it up to 9k rpm range it's a real event to the senses. Even at 5 years old, it's a car that draws so much positive attention, people taking pictures and coming over to chat about it. It's probably my all-time ultimate sports car, so feel very fortunate to now own one.

The speed at which this thing can take corners is simply unbelievable....relatively tight right-handers where I'd only go in at 40mph max in the Z4MC you can do at 70mph easily in the RS. The rear tyres being 325's provide phenomenal grip.

I'm going to semi-daily drive it, which is probably stupid, but f*ck it, whilst I still can you might as well. (I hope the single-mass flywheel doesn't become a pain, as it makes a right old noise in full automatic mode)

The colour suits it to a t.....seen it in the flesh in this colour,and looks superb
They do drive very very well,and they are, for me, one of The Best handling and gripping (as you say) cars I have ever driven.

They do feel as if Porsche had "honed" the Body shell out of one solid Piece of metal.
The chassis is very well sorted.
These are really top end money now these cars,and still likely to rise more through time.

That's the standard 991.1 GT3, which was a 3.8 version with all the internet hype. Actually, it only affected the very first batch of the cars, and Porsche quickly acted revising the design and updating all the 3.8 cars for the remainder of the run. Typically with the internet it massively overplays things. There were only 2 reported cars that caught on fire across the world and only 14 cars that really needed their engines changed. Porsche has given a free 10-year warranty on all .1 cars to show their confidence in the engine....but the reality is you'd be crazy not to warrant the cars anyway through Porsche as it's the same price on a C2 as it is on a GT3RS...

Mine is a RS, which is a 4.0 car and there have been no reported issues with these ones. They did update the engine design to generate 20 more HP in the .2 cars, for both GT3 and RS.

I picked it up on the Friday and it only has one of the tiny sticker plates (which you get fined for running with) and you don’t pick up any fine for no plate. I’ll get a GT3 private plate and get a full sized sticker plate to run it with.

My bad you're quite right, it's the standard gt3 3.8 that has problems, not related to fire issues mind.

That headline 9k rpm is also only available in first gear, each gear after that it drops a little. Porsche are now on engine revision “G” and they are still letting go if you track. And you can see it in the values of the 991 now they are coming up to the end of the 10 year warranty period, they have dropped hard, whilst the 991.2 4.0 gt3 series are still commanding good money.
I only know all this as I was about to buy one, and luckily did my due dilligence before hand. Wouldn’t touch a 991.1 gt3 with a barge pole unless just planning to pose and cruise in it, as who wants to be holding the bag for a 40k engine replacement outside of warranty"

Only thing I'd be wary of semi daily driving is the lack of underseal and the cup 2s!

Only thing I'd be wary of semi daily driving is the lack of underseal and the cup 2s!

Yep, the cup 2s will be switched over for 4s later in the month. Although, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how good the cup 2 have been in the cold weather.
