Restoring Wheels?

Post by mike1 » Sun Jan 02, 2022 1:07 pm

Want to refinish my 224 wheels. I'm not sure if I should have them painted or powder coated. Painting is $250.00 a wheel from a excellent painter in my area. It seems high. What does everyone do? I want durability. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike.

Its expensive compared to uk prices but not sure if is expensive for the US, paint generally gives the best finish, powdercoat the most durable, my local guy goes for the best of both by painting the wheel but using a powdercoat laquer, he then finishes them with a ceramic coating..all in he charges £450-£550 for all 4 wheels depending on wheel size and chosen colours which is not considered cheap here in the UK and which would convert to around $610-$740 so your 1K does sound a bit salty..could be the going rate over though..shop around a bit and see what other prices you get I would suggest
if its got tits or tyres..its trouble :D

$250 per wheel sounds expensive, but maybe that is the going rate in the US?

I got all 4 of my 224s stripped and powder coated last April for £288 which is currently about $400. I chose powder coating for the durability.

I think I'd try to get a couple more quotes for comparison.

I had mine painted last year - big expensive mistake as they are now covered in stone chips...
