Event Ideas and Routes for Ga Chapter

Post by 561design » Tue Sep 18, 2007 2:46 pm

I will continue to update this thread as I recieve these notices. The following are planned trip routes for the local Alpha club. We are not invited to attend but we can use their routes and locations. We'd just need to scheduale on a different day. They're annual events so I imagine they're pretty good if they do them each year.
Annual Mountain Trip
To Pisgah Inn, North Carolina
Friday and Saturday, September 21 and 22, 2007

Meet at: I-985 Exit 8 (Lake Lanier Islands/Friendship
Road/Hwy 347). Exit off of I-985 and turn back west
for 0.2 miles to the McDonald’s on the right. There
is a large Publix parking lot next to McD’s where we
will meet. The meeting time is around 10:45 am and we
will drive away about noon so.

There are several places to eat lunch at this
location: McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Blimpie’s,
Waffle House, Huddle House, and NY Pizza.

What to bring: Pack an overnight bag for two nights
and bring one side dish for our Friday night get
together.

The route: We will be making two stops along the
route, for the convenience of the Spider drivers and
their passengers. We will drive north on I-985/Hwy
23/ Hwy 441 to the Tallulah Falls Overlook. This
first stop is about 56 miles north of our meeting
location, and is on the SR15 Loop road.

The second stop is about 51 miles north on Hwy 23 in
North Carolina. There will be an Exxon convenience
store on the right.

At this second stop, we will divide the cars into two
groups. The gold group will continue on Hwy 23 North
through Franklin, Dillsboro, and Sylva, North
Carolina. At Mile Marker 94 we will make a left turn
off of Hwy 23 North and take the Blue Ridge Parkway
ramp for about a half mile to the BRP. We will turn
left and the Pisgah Inn will be 35 miles down the road
on the right.

The blue group will follow Hwy 441 North into
Cherokee, NC. They will drive through Cherokee and
take the Blue Ridge Parkway back east to the Pisgah
Inn. This route will add about 35 miles and 45
minutes to an hour to their drive

Pisgah Inn information: If you would like to spend
Friday and/or Saturday night at the Pisgah Inn, call
1-828-235-8228. ( http://www.PisgahInn.com ) There is a
restaurant at the Inn. Make your room reservation as
soon as possible to guarantee your place at the Inn.

Saturday activity: Local Alfisti Jay Mavidi will lead
a caravan to Hendersonville for a day of shopping and
the auto show held on the street.

Finally: Drive your ALFA. Air conditioning is
optional. Lighten up and enjoy the drive. We will be
observing all posted speed limits (there will be a
police presence in Hall, Habersham and Rabun Counties
and in North Carolina).

Here's another.
Here are the details from Jim Webster for our annual
Beat the Heat drive coming up on August 18th.

Atlanta Alfa Romeo Owners Club
Annual Beat the Heat Picnic Drive
To Cliffside Lake Recreation Area
Outside of Highlands, North Carolina
Saturday, August 18, 2007

Meet at: I-985 Exit 8 (Lake Lanier Islands/Friendship Road/Hwy 347). Exit I-985 and turn back west for 0.2 miles to the McDonald's on the right. There is a large Publix parking lot next
to McD's where we will meet. The meeting time is around 9:30 am and we will drive away about 10 am or so.

What to bring: Pack a picnic lunch, sunscreen, and bug spray. If you want to spend the night at the Skyline Lodge in Highlands, NC, pack an overnight bag.

The route: We will drive north on I-985/Hwy 23/Hwy 441 to Clayton, GA, where we will stop at the Race Trac convenience store in Clayton. After this rest stop, we will drive north on
Hwy 441 about two blocks and turn right onto Warwoman Road. This road will be about thirteen miles long and will intersect with Hwy 28. We will drive north on Hwy 28 into Highlands, NC. In
Highlands, we will turn back west (left) onto Hwy 64 West and drive toward Franklin. The Cliffside Lake Recreation Area is about seven miles outside of Highlands.

Things to know: There is an entrance fee of $4.00 per car to the Cliffside Lake Recreation Area. The trip from Clayton to Cliffside Lake has twisty roads. ;- )

Skyline Lodge information: If you would like to spend the Saturday night at the Skyline Lodge in Highlands, NC (http://www.skyline-lodge.com ), call 1-800-575-9546. Let the folks there know you are
with the "Atlanta Alfa Club". The rooms on the lower floors are $129/night (+ tax) and the rooms on the upper floors are $149/night (+ tax). There is a restaurant at the lodge. Make your
room reservation as soon as possible to guarantee your place at the Lodge.

Directions to Skyline Lodge: From Cliffside Lake, return to Highlands on Hwy 64 East. In Highlands, stay on Hwy 64 East and go approximately three miles to Flat Mountain Road, turn
left, and follow the signs to the Lodge.

Directions back to Atlanta: From Cliffside Lake, return to Highlands. In Highlands, turn right onto NC106 (Dillard Road). NC106 becomes Rt246 in Georgia and intersects with Hwy
441 in Dillard. Turn back left (south) at the intersection and Hwy 441 will take you back to I-985.

Finally: Drive your ALFA. Air conditioning is optional. Lighten up and enjoy the drive. We will be observing all posted speed limits (there will be a police presence in Hall and Rabun Counties).
