Finally got her back today.
After many discussions with service agent I actually got to speak with mechanic and foreman. They spoke with an engineer at BMW (noted as TSE in repair sheet) and he recommended they look at oil pump for replacement. They replaced it over the past few days and completed it yesterday.
It was explained to me that the oil pump in the oil pan also has a vacuum pump attached to it. There is a back up vacuum pump that was likely doing the heavy lifting while this was going out. It was also explained to me when I asked why no error codes or lights came on in the dash because it's a mechanical system and there are no sensors on that pump area.
Noise is gone and I've got a new oil pump. Hopefully nothing else is affected by what happened but I'm glad it's taken care of now and I brought it right in.
