Out of hibernation but no working roof

Post by Scarcey » Wed Jun 07, 2023 7:15 pm

So, finally got the MR out of the garage and out of hibernation. I’d had it on a trickle charge but it turned out the battery was gone - lights but no crank. Not to worry though as it was going to a local specialist for an inspection II. Had the service and a new battery onto it for a fair price (or at least I thought so -£901). Loved having it out again - smiles for miles.

Trouble is, my hood isn’t working. It didn’t when I got it out of the garage and thought it might be due to the battery. But after having the new battery, no joy. I’m getting the orange light rather than the red one; nothing is happening though to the point that the windows aren’t dropping and I can’t here the roof unlatch. Appreciate it is a common thing on these for roof to have troubles and I haven’t had the roof relocated. I’m relatively handy with spanners but haven’t attempted anything roof repair wise before. Hoping to have a look at it before the weekend. So far I can’t see any clear breakages in the switches etc. But I haven’t investigated much and truth be told I’m not 100% on what to look for.

Any guidance appreciated - I think I’m just frustrated after delaying its release from winter storage and now it doesn’t work. Everything worked as it should when it went in the garage and last came out a couple of months ago.

Orange light says the boot parcel shelf is in the wrong position.
Either that or the micro-switch has failed.
Check the shelf is down first.

Oh, and I'm not far away from you. Done plenty of roof motor relocations, but never an 'M'.
Just saying.................... :D

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ve gone out to the garage and had a play with the shelf. Good news! No orange light.

Bad news! Windows down roof unlatched but no movement and a flashy red light if I hold it down for ages.

Damn!
Any sound from the motor?
Could be time to relocate it?

Thanks. I appreciate it. I’ll try and have a look at it over the next few days and see how far I can get. The car never sees rain so I’m hoping that it’s not too bad and everything is salvageable. If you’ve got any top tips I’m all ears. Currently watching the reddish video on YouTube.

Is there much of a zed scene out in Suffolk/Norfolk? I’d be keen to get some meets going. I’m out on the coast - always wondered if mine is the most Easterly Z4m in the country

Sounds like the motor has died. Even just washing it can let water into the motor casing. It’ll keep itself freed off while you use it but leave it a while and it will seize up.
