E89 Roof Problems in Bristol

Post by Peter Gane » Mon Jun 19, 2023 5:26 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a 2015 Z4 E89. Recently the roof red light has started coming on accompanied by a ping. Usually the light goes out but can come back again. When the fault light shows, sometimes, the window switch doesnt work. The roof is working but clearly there is a fault. Hopefully just a micro switch/ sensor but not sure.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a recommended repair garage in the Bristol area?

Thanks
Peter

Stay out of Bristol...might be answer.

Probably broken wire, usual symptom.
Code reader required to find out which one.

I thought he was an E85 man, not an E89?

Yes Alan is definitely the E85 guru, not sure he knows too much about E89s tbh.
I have heard that he has a dismal success rate on the E86.

Always happy to help if I can.

If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

Could be microswitches or hall sensors as well - these are the typically failures on e89.

Redish are inBristol and Forza are in Caldicot, I would also look at Autotech in Cwmbran, found then pretty helpful.

Do you have a code reader?

Yes, sorry. I’m no use on E89’s

You need a computer to move things all out of sequence otherwise you get the roof stuck half way and can’t access the boot

Try Autobase in C Sodbury or failing that Lee at Autotech in Caerleon is a whizz on E89 roofs

Already recommended Autotech - They are always helpful and reasonably priced but don't expect a glass showroom, the place is pretty functional
