Boot soft close successfully repaired by BMW independent yesterday (for the price of one hour's labour). As helpful members predicted, the fault was 'the loose wire syndrome'.

Coincidentally, mentioned it to my optician, who drives a Bentley. 'Yes', he said, 'I've got the same problem.'

Mmm ... now, who makes Bentleys, I wonder?
