How many times have you seen the oe s54 pipe split?

Only once on mine. But I replaced it with an OE one

Did look for a full Samco kit when I did my cooling system refresh many years back, but there wasn’t an off-the-shelf kit available, so I didn’t bother.

I stand corrected then. What was the root cause?

Don't know.

Just had a small air leak causing poor running. Replaced the MAF but it didn't solve it, but then got told there was a tiny split in the tube, so had that replaced too. Of course, it could have just been a poorly fitted pipe (or the clamps being on cock-eyed), but it worked fine after that.

Maybe it was age, maybe it was the ham-fisted owner who kept swapping around various intakes for fun
