Wheel query

Post by t90ark » Thu Sep 28, 2023 7:26 pm

So, who knows about wheels and can answer a query for me?

I have style 294 wheels and recently had all 4 wheels off just to give them a decent clean. They were refurbished about 2 years ago.

When they were off, I noticed each wheel had, what looks like, center punch marks at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. Marks from a frame to hold them during refurb or is it something like they've been straightened?

It's not from straightening. You would see many more marks than that! Wheel straightening is a rather aggressive affair.

Probably the holding pin marks from the refurb machine, or maybe even a tyre machine. Could even have been from the moulding when they were made.

I have noticed these on one of my cars (although not in four places). Never been refurbed or straightened but have had the tyres off once to be powder-coated.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Could be some sort of Alien gadget
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.
