Fan / water sensor
Hi all , been a while .
Just not been as enthusiastic with the car this year for personal reasons.
I’m after some help please…
The water fan is coming on , and going off, intermittent ,
Even from cold start , which kind of points towards the coolant sensor, I know there are 2 …. One at the top which is the temperature sensor, and then the fan sensor. It’s this I’m struggling with, looked at a couple of videos, and it shows it on the bottom radiator hose in the video. But it’s not there on mine. Anyone know where else this might be please?
It’s a 35.i 2013 e89
Thanks in advance

Have you read the error codes…this behaviour is sometimes associated with failing water pump..
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Pump is around £320 from Indy sources…need to do thermostat at the same time around £80…probably 4-5 hours labour..Dave 2 dogs wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2023 10:36 am Thanks B21

I’d imagine at BMW it’s over a grand..probably closer to £1,500…

It's a big job - book says 6 hours for water pump on it's own.
I'm assuming this was an indy, so likely £500 - £600 of that bill was labour.
Always feels like a spanking, but I guess they gotta eat & premises / tools / ramps don't pay for themselves.

Mine went at 55k
Mate and I did the job
It’s not easy
We took a weekend working slowly at it
Wish I’d taken it to my Indy

I’m happy with the price , you mentioned the cost of the pump , plus the thermostat, and plus vat . I think it was reasonable to be fair. Like you said. They gotta eatmatsmith749 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 9:43 am It's a big job - book says 6 hours for water pump on it's own.

If I’d booked it with BMW they would have probably said a month or something wait time. Plus much more money. It’s another tick box for things that go wrong on these. Along with the roof fail which I did last year. So less to worry about, and more to enjoy, plus a bit of incentive for the potential buyer when/if I sell
