Great work..epic project
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

You've made some good progress there with some impressive fabrication work.
It will definitely be exciting when you get to drive it!

Yes, they are Vibra Technics mounts. The stock S85 ones are big old things and got in the way of stuff in all sorts of ways. I was worried about the extra engine weight but when spoke to them they advised using the race/track version of a Z4M mount as the additional weight would offset the extra stiffness and therefore achieve the right amount of compliance. Fingers crossed that works out. Nice bits of kit though…

Hi,
It’s going ok thanks. I’ve got the electric steering column out and replaced it with a Z4M version. I’ve had to make a bespoke intermediate shaft to couple the column to the rack whilst moving it out of the way of the exhaust. It’s got double UJ’s at either end which means it needs support bearings to keep it in position. Boy are those joints expensive! (Flaming River parts) And I wanted to keep it telescopic still, so that was another complication. The rad and AC condenser are mounted and the prop is almost done (mostly Z4M but with an E60 M5 front spider section spliced in.) The prop ends up shorter than a stock Z4M part, so I took all the bits and a set of dimensions to a local specialist to put it all together properly. I’ve figured out how to make an E60 e-box fit by using a 3D printed adaptor between the E60 part and the Z4 chassis so that the engine harness reaches and fits properly. Oh, and I’ve made a bracket for the E60 M5’s remote oil filter/stat housing. I’m mainly trying to get all the hard points done before I start on wiring, piping up and exhaust. I got hold of an aero kit front bumper which needs a bit of work and some aero kit cill covers, so I’ve got those to sort out and swap too. The stock Z4 battery tray is out to make room for a decent exhaust so I need to put the battery in the boot and make a blank for the hole left by the battery box.
I’ll get some pictures posted when I get chance.
Cheers,
Jason.
