Where to buy engine oil

Post by kis » Thu Jan 18, 2024 11:12 pm

So I've been a Castrol oil user for over a decade. I buy for the BMW's we have plus the (BMW) Mini. I need to buy around 11 litres for two cars in particular that need oil changes. So that's 3x 4litre bottles. May even buy a 4th for future top-ups. Wheres the best place to bulk buy oil? I've seen cheapest is actually Amazon at around £35 for a bottle.

I've checked various places like euro, halfords, autodoc, etc. Any other places I should be looking?

And my curve-ball, is there any other oils manufacturers I should consider using?

FWIW BMW always used to recommend Castrol, but some years ago they swapped over to Shell Ultra which is what my Indy (Ross at RBM) also uses so if LL01/LL04 compliant Shell is cheaper that would be an option. I got some of that pretty cheap a few years ago from ECP for top-ups in my leaky E90!

But Ross still uses Castrol Racing 10W/60 for the Ms.
Coupes because stunning!

Another recommendation for Opie Oils, they always have a wide range of brands.

Since 2018 I have been using FUCHS oils in 3 cars and I have found their pricing to be competitive. As an example, last year in July I ordered 15 litres of Titan GT1 LL04 spec to service my 650i and Z4 for £75.

I only ever buy from Opie Oils.

Millers Nanodrive which is now Millers Performance.

The Z4 has only had Millers for the past 9 years and changed ever year.

I think generally most medium level oil brands are all pretty good for the applications we need them for ... I would avoid comma
Ive had everything from Shell to Millers to Mobil to Castrol and cannot say for what I use the car for they have made a slight bit of difference in my ownership time. I did notice Castrol for sale on Amazon the other day something like 27 quid for 4 litres.

Coxmotorparts have a sale on at the moment, got 6 litres of shell helix ultra professional AM-L for about 30 quid which seemed very cheap to me. Same one looks to be 60 on Opie Oils at the moment. No brainer!

My usual recommendation: for Fuchs Titan Race Pro S in whichever weight you prefer.

alternately any ester based oil such as millers nanodrive, motorsport etc or redline or which ever else. Wouldnt be put off by the "motorsport" sounding names, its still just oil. Made my engine run quieter and no more lifter tick etc.

Ive found the best place is ebay especially if you can find a seller that doesnt jack up prices when the 15/20% discounts are on.
