Bimmercode Laptop or Mobile???

So i got hold of ISTA (D+P) and have used it a couple of times to scan faults (with my ongoing issue). When i got it i was planning some re-coding as well (the usual E89 ones roof operation when moving/with keyfob, wing mirrors auto fold with fob, DRL's etc). However i have been put off using ISTA P for coding as i have heard you must use a voltage regulator or you could have big problems!

Because of this i thought i would use Bimmercode, the question is should i use the laptop or the Android version?

My hunch is to use the app as it is portable, i already have a compatible adapter (Nexus) so apart from the cost of the app i should not need to spend anything else.

Are there any benefits to using the desktop version over the android app?

I don’t think it’s particularly an issue with Ista having the battery on a maintainer, that’s just a precaution with any software when coding and programming just in case the battery goes flat halfway through. If you don’t use the car regularly, certainly over winter then I’d suggest using a battery maintainer as a matter of course.

I believe as you say ISTA/P requires a 13.5v level to initiate programming…you’d need a 20 amp plus float charger in that case.

Protool is happy to do its coding on a normal voltage level..I always start with a fully charged battery and keep the charger attached.

Charge it for at least 12-24 hours before coding just to be safe..

Note charging is not driving the car as the car never normally charges past 80% at best..

I would imagine yes, but as you already have Ista, how often would you be programming? There’s plenty of tutorials/instructions online for the odd tweak.

WinKFP does lots of things that Bimmercode or even Protool doesn't do!

Maybe i will have a look for a couple of tutorials. Having to use a battery conditioner was pushing me towards an app, that and the ease of use an app gives you.
