powerflex FCAB install... anyone got some tips?

Post by Beedub » Thu Jan 18, 2024 8:39 pm

my partner picked me some powerflex poly FCAB up for xmas.... just wondering if anyone has any tips for removing and fitting these? did anyone measure the distance from the control arm end to the lollipop to ensure they are mounted of equal distance on each respective side? I will need to find somewhere to press these in for me or buy the kit for the workshop ( always good to have on hand ).

Any further info would be great....

I did measure that to get as close to previous set up when refitting- still needed tracking!
If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

I thought the bushes could be pressed in with a normal vice? I've just cut the bushes out of some old lollipops myself... with a view to fit some strongflex I've got had on my desk for a few weeks. Not an M but yeah same principle!

i like this idea, i may grab a couple of used lollipops so i can just swap in and do the messing around with the used set, i have a vice at work but assumed the jaws would damage the billet contre bore on the new FCAB

I've got a few sets of old bushes that I cut up. I was cautious at first too. Doing it by hacksaw for the first one but it took forever. So used a recip to do the bulk of the work and then followed with a hacksaw for the last little bit.

IMO damage to the inner sleeve is certain, it's only soft aluminium. So even with a proper hydraulic press to press the old bush out, you're going to mark the inside. I used sandpaper to smooth and you're all good.

For holding the lollipop and using a vice, I clamped it with two scrap pieces of wood so the flange that blots to the car wouldn't be marked unnecessarily. Not that it would matter, clamping straight in the vice would only cause surface imperfections, it wouldn't affect the structural integrity...

There's a chamfered edge from which to press the bush in from, be mindful of the locating notch, there to help line up the Eccentric bush.

Does the notch doesn’t serve a purpose on Normal lollipop/bush combo?
