Brake pad wear sensor

Post by Pecky1964 » Sat Feb 17, 2024 3:27 pm

Hi all, I need some help please. Just removed rear wheels and brake pad wear sensor is flush with edge of brake pad and therefore touching the break disc.
Does this activate the light on the dash or does it wear down some more and activate the light when pads are almost worn up?
There is 7mm of wear left in the pads.
A friend has a BMW dealership and had a Quick Look on the dash and pressed loads of buttons and said that it needs software update which he will do free of charge.
If this sensor will activate the light once it has had the update I guess the best thing to do is to cable tie the sensor to the brake caliper and periodically have a Quick Look at the pads to see when they really need changing………

Two stage..initially a yellow warning then a red warning..will need new sensor when you fit the pads
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Thanks for your reply.
I removed the front n/s wheel and the sensor was not there, just a broken wire.
I am unsure is this would cause the light to come on on the dashboard though.
I will replace it and see what happens……..
