Warning lights: ABS followed by PARK
Some context: My 2015 Z4 E89 2.0 has been left unused for a week or so and I know the battery is close to need replacing (I suspect it's the original, but not 100% sure).
1. Today after not being used for a week, about 10 mins into my journey to work the following set of lights appeared - see photo. Seems like an ABS failure of some sort. Again 10 mins into my journey on the way home this appeared again.
2. After turning off the ignition and removing my key the message "PARK" appeared in yellow. Just now turned on my ignition without starting the car and "PARK" appeared.
Any ideas would be appreciated as it's really hard to get to a garage at this time.
Thank you for any ideas, Tony

I assume you don’t have a decent bmw specific code reader?
Probably a DSC module or ABS sensor failure..but without a code reader who knows…

Could be the failing handbrake software (low battery induced)

Tends to be only early E89s..firmware revision addressed that ..in theory..

As B21 said without a code reader is all guesswork. However I had a similar issue on a previous E89 and it was water ingress on the module that controls the e-brake. Located in the boot on the right hand side. Took it out and all the terminals were blue with corrosion. Cleaned them up and was all clear.
Worth a look and then a code reader if not.

Unfortunately I don’t have a reader.. I rarely feel confident fixing my Z4, esp as I have no physical place to really do any repairs. But you’re right, I do feel I should get a reader.

I am wondering whether my first step should be ac replacement battery as I’m pretty sure that’s needed. I’ve been hesitating given there’s nowhere near me to get this done and don’t have the tools to fit and program the battery.

I’m pretty sure my software was updated last year but I’m not sure if there are different bits of software that need to be updated, if you see what I mean?

I will try to double check for the water and rust. I do maintain the car well and the boot was spotless the last time I looked. But it’s probably been a couple of months since I’ve specifically looked under the boot flap itself.Reamesy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 10:03 pm As B21 said without a code reader is all guesswork. Without a decent fully charged battery in an E89 you’re flying blind..at that point it’s pot luck..

Have got it booked in for tomorrow. Their starting point will be the battery I think.

Having put in enough warning lights to read a newspaper in the dark, why the f... didn't BMW add just one more ... 'You need a new battery'?

I had all these, abs unit failure, came up as pressure sensor inside the unit.
I got second hand unit for £30 and fitted, no coding required had same part numbers..
But you have to remove brake pipes and rebleed the system. Code reader with brake bleeder was needed.
But the tpms no longer works but can live without that.
Apparently the pressure sensor fail is not a uncommon fault.
