Washer jets-

Post by bigwinn » Sun Mar 03, 2024 10:12 pm

Evening all

Issue with one headlight washer unit

Both pop up
Only one sprays

No immediate leaks seen

In my head the water pressure causes the jets to pop up? Am I right?

Thanks

Stuart

I believe so. Is it the passenger one not spraying?
That has the longest run. If the pipe is blocked or kinked maybe the water takes the easier route through the closer washer?

Or in my case, the passenger side was leaking like mad but the driver side was spraying fine

When I got mine the passenger side was leaking so after getting that fixed I pulled the fuse (40) and had no issues for 4 years.

They don't really do much other than obscure your vision in the dark, leave streaks up the front wings, leak and eject their jets!

But I went out today and the fluid level light came on - sure enough the reservoir was empty. :headbang:

I may end up plugging the pipes too - pointless bloody things.

Pressure forces the jet out. So chances are you got a bit of shite in the end of the nozzle.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

I am trying to get my head around what I am likely to find when I take the bumper off and look at the headlight washers.

Subject to any blockages the near side looks OK... the inner bit of pipe pulls out freely and I am hoping that with a new cap on the top that side will work. Drivers side the cap is still in place... I can lift the front side of the cap easily, but the drivers side of the cap doesn't seem to budge... and clues as to what I might discover?

The caps are cosmetic and do not impact on the functioning of the washer. When activated, water pressure pushes the nozzle up out of the hole that the cap covers. The cap is attached to the nozzle on a swivel.

Thanks. I know how they basically work - I thought the caps were part-cosmetic and partly to help direct the water to the lights.

Why do the cap lift easily towards the front of the car but is jammed tight to the bumper to the headlight side of the cap?!!?!? Surely it should be stuck down due to the pump not moving or it should lift up along with the pump? Why is it half stuck?

To be fair this is one of those things where I should probably look at it myself and then ask any questions that follow afterwards!

I can’t answer that, but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that someone has glued it on to stop it flying off, and not done a good job of it.
