New type of scam (to me anyway)

I’ve just had someone try to scam me over the bike I’m selling (in FB).
A person contacted me, seemed legit, but then asked me for the bikes QVC report (quick vins check). I’d never heard of this and I’ve bought and sold loads of cars/bikes.
I googled QVC and came across a very convincing website where you enter the VIN and pay an amount of money (£29) to receive your report.
This put my guard (and back) up as its buyers responsibility to do due diligence when buying.
I suggested that if he viewed the bike and was interested, I would pay for the report. We swapped a few messages, then the sob stories started and I ceased contact.

I’ve never come across this scam, be warned.

Sounds like a knob rather than a scammer TBH.

Facebook marketplace is absolutely full of scammers and knobs. So much so, I won't use it for anything worth more than a tenner.

I’m used to FB scammers, but this was something different? I googled it and it is a new type of scam.

It's a scam, they get the payment you make for the report, you get no further contact.

Lots of it being reported on Pistonheads too, and as has been said they'll keep chasing you for the 'correct' one until you spend the cash on their website.

I suppose it also opens you up to unauthorised charges being put on your card.

If anyone asks me to do one on their behalf, I've got a simple answer for them
