Todays update:

Feel more happier with the list of what’s needed and more about the condition of the car.

I stripped and painted the callipers (black) in anticipation of the new braided hoses. One calliper is goosed so ordered a new one.

Looked at the body of the car and checked all the panel mounting points are ok- most are (!) and re mounted the front end/bumper carrier.

Most importantly I attached a battery. Ignition on (a sea of warning lights) and turned the engine over- all good!!!

A productive day- next step as I await the missing bits (some of which prevent progression) I may swap the seat backs over and get the red recoloured. Plus the roof can go back in its living place as well.

Better already!
Did you get the aircon pipes off the compressor?
You'll be cursing refitting that front end if they turn out to be stuck!

The guy was a very gifted creator. He had scratch built some interesting cars using as example an E30 3 series

This one was destined for similar but I think age caught up with him

I know! It’s been too long

This week has been busier than usual interspersed with rubbish weather: so really only today saw some solid action

Nonetheless some pics and a list of what’s been done.

With Steve’s help today too- thanks bud!

I’m now just waiting for some missing parts (thanks Barry!) which come ahead of next weekend- and I can’t do much until for example I get the carpets

Headlines- engine bay back together and all ancillaries back on
Major panels back on
All looms placed and most things reconnected
Doors put back together

It’s a great car- I’m really pleased with the general state of it

The amount of boxes have gone down and the nuts and bolts pile is smaller!

Above all- it’s bl00dy good fun. I recommend it for anyone who likes puzzles.

Another ‘win’ is that I’ve found the car is fitted with the BMW genuine retrofit DAB radio too

Nice work mate.
The big bits are going back and it's looking pretty good.
Looking forward to the electrical part of the job? I suspect that may be more of a challenge.

Well so far so good… I guess the ones to be wary of are abs and airbag gremlins

Won’t be long and we will see!

Credit also to Steve who picked up two lower splash guards from David Jackson which were a little worse for wear (I just needed something in the void to keep everything in the right locations- and he spent ages aralditing them together for me

Tough as old boots now they will be all that’s left after the apocalypse- two splash guards and cockroaches
