£32 handbrake fix

Post by wiganz4 » Thu Apr 18, 2024 3:28 pm

Decided to re-grind the teeth back into the handbrake ratchet bracket. Bear in mind it couldn't of got any worse, and I'm used to working with metal so don't shout all at once. :D

Turned out easier than expected, about ten minutes actual work, including collecting the burrs with a magnet, and I now have teeth in between 3 and about 7!
Used a 9mm square edged bit (£32) and extender to re -shape the bracket and give it the correct angle.
Took longer to get the tools together than do the actual job!

Best post this in the E85 section…electronic hand brake on E89s..don’t want to raise false expectations!
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
A very modified Atacama Yellow 35is

Interesting.

I’d heard you could do this… good to see it done in practice and easier than replacing the damn thing!!

£32 handbrake fix

This is a great solution, I was dreading the task of removing my handbrake lever and reprofiling the teeth with a file or dremel. And definitely cheaper than buying a replacement.
