E89 Z4 convertible top issue

Post by markperalez » Fri Apr 19, 2024 3:53 am

Hello guys,
E89 Z4 convertible top begins to open, then stops hen the rear window is only part way lifted. The display in the car show a red image of my door windows. When I turn car off the window goes back down and I can use the other button to lock it in place.
Is there anyone having the same issue? How to solve this problem?

You need a code reader to identify the problem, probably a hall sensor fault.

Is there a restriction on the search function for new members with problems?

Yes - a mental restriction.

Search is a brand new invention, and it's concept has clearly not yet propogated through the new member population.

It’s like queuing. Not everyone wants to do it.

You mean just walk off and don't get served or service.
It's free world.

Get a code reader, that will help you pinpoint the issue.

Once you get the error codes you can search for them on here, there will likely be a detailed thread about it with a solution.

Roof fixes can be very cheap or very expensive, without a code reader it’s difficult to know where to start.

As your roof is functioning and is stopping part way through the sequence, it’s possibly a microswitch or sensor not allowing the next phase of the roof operation to continue. It could also be cracked wiring. There are a couple of common places this can occur.

You can get a cheap code reader as long as it’s BMW compatible, I think I paid about £15-£20 for mine when diagnosing the roof issue.

Good luck!
