Mr Wilks what Millers engine oil did you use in your Z4 ? looking on Opie's website and there are four kinds available 5w 40 XF, 5W 30 XF, and two 5w 30 EE Nanodrive variants.

3.0 then 5w 30 longlife but still change every 12 months 7k miles
My son used the Nano in his Rocco R which whilst dearer would appear o be worth the extra http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Millers-Oils- ... SwDNdVxFj0
If you are noticing high consumption its worth giving the 5w 40 Nano a go

By coincidence, I have an appointment TOMORROW morning with my BMW dealer for an inspection and oil/filter change. I am taking 7 qts of AMSOIL synthetic Long Life oil and will buy the filter at the dealer's. What else may get done will depend on the results of the inspection. Now 25,000 KMs (15535 miles) on the odometer of my 2007 Z4 3.0i automatic which I have now owned for 13 months.

I am about to buy some oil and I was wondering whether it’s worth getting Fuchs titan race pro s 5w 30. It’s not cheap oil at £56 for 5 litres but I used to use it in my last car on a recommendation and didn’t seem to have any issues.
Am I overspending? 91k on the clock so not mega mileage but I can hear a tapping from the lifters so would like to get some decent oil in there especially as I think I’ve now sorted the oil leak so my money won’t be dripping away.

Tapping lifters is a N52 problem and you have a M54
You’ll get masses of different answers on here. To be honest any decent quality synthetic 5W30 will do, preferably BMW spec. Some higher milers prefer a thicker 5W40.
It also depends how you use the car, the above is relevant for normal road use. For track work, you probably need the best you can get.
I always use Millers since I’ve had Z4s. It used to be Nano EE, but now I use the cheaper Trident and make sure it’s changed regularly.

It’s not a terrible tap/tick noise but if I could lessen it that would be good.
Anyway I think I will get some millers, I’d already seen that as an option on opie oils. Seems a bit daft to chuck another 50 quid at it if not necessary. Cheers.
