I hate so called garages

Post by M1TCH » Sun Apr 28, 2024 11:32 am

My 3.0si had a timing issue took to a garage and in fairness the engine guy was quite knowledgable. Got a call from owner yesterday and this is what the clown said ( not knowing I know these cars very well)

It would not start as when we took rocker cover off we pulled the Chain and jumped a tooth ??!!
We soldered 3 wires for cam sensor and it took 3.5 hours.
The chain will need replacing at some time !

I said I had the cover off and the chain and tensioners are not only in great shape but no slack at all. And you certainly wouldn’t be able to pull it and jump a tooth !
The 3 wires I could solder in under 30 mins (and I can’t solder)

These clowns think everyone is a fool and will pick the car up tomorrow and lay into him for his blatant lies ! I suspect that after I drove the car down there they wired up the cam sensor incorrectly but chose to make up a totally retarded story !

Was it the eccentric cam sensor they repaired?
Wonder if they undid the bolts for the chain guide by mistake?

Either way, never go back!!

Then why did they even take the rocker cover off at all?

Wouldn’t take mine just anywhere. Been burned like that from a indie who even specialised in BMW’s!

Need to take it somewhere reputable, if you can’t do the work yourself that is. My small fleet always go to RBM and I know the car(s) are in safe hands there. Plus I get a headed paper receipt to put in the book which will all help with resale? If needed. A reputable specialist is better than a genuine BMW dealer IMO.
