So an update. I have learned that in instances such as this you should advise your own insurer, but do not open a claim. The whole process should be handled by the 3rd parties insurer, they should provide you with a courtesy car etc etc. It should also mean definitely no cost to the “no fault” party even (theoretically) at renewal time. If both insurance companies are involved quite simply it’s costs more… and naturally impacts all of our premiums down the line.
