E85 roof motor has failed

Post by Sailorman » Mon May 20, 2024 7:58 pm

My 2004 E85 2500 si had a new roof motor fitted in summer 2020 by the previous owner and I felt pretty certain it would last a few years. Wrong, last week it failed and to make matters worse the manual over-ride does not allow me to move the roof at all. Luckily the motor failed in the UP position.

My local BMW specialists, Burch Motor Company of Christchurch say they can't look at it before August. We are booked to go to France on 26th June for some top-down motoring so I need to find someone who knows how to sort this before then and hopefully not too expensively.

I have read on the Forum of such a maestro, bowser134, reputed to be found near Hook in Hampshire, just over an hour's drive from here (Lymington). Can anyone please tell me his/her email or phone no.

Thanks in advance.

PS I've studies various videos on YouTube demonstrating how the motor can be accessed from the boot. I'm 80 and not very flexible these days and I doubt I could contort myself enough to tackle the job myself.
