Dension Power Booster

Post by Jammie13 » Thu Aug 04, 2011 10:42 pm

I was just checking that I'd received, in the post, the correct Dension cradle for my iphone when i stumbled upon this webpage:
http://www.dension.com/iphone-ipod-car- ... -cradle-3g
which implies that an "additional Power Booster is required" for an Iphone 4.

However, these pages:
http://www.dension.com/iphone-ipod-car- ... er-booster
http://www.dension.com/sites/default/fi ... pdated.pdf
suggests that it's only required for Gateway 100 & 300 models with an 18 pin connector.

I've got a Gateway 300 with a 40 pin connector (model GW33BM4), so I'm not sure if I really need the Power Booster. Before i start pulling my car (Z4 3.0si Coupe 2007) apart on saturday, does anyone know if i'm going to need the Power Booster?

Thanks.

I've ordered a Dension Gateway Lite recently and did some research around this. I haven't received it yet, so I can only tell you what I researched on the same subject.

I've been told by an online retailer that specialises in the area that the iPhone 4 will charge without the power booster, just not very quickly - the power booster pushes the current up from 500mA to 1Amp, which is what the iPhone 4 needs to charge properly.

Having had a look at some other forums I've seen anecdotal evidence suggesting that this is correct.

Personally I was just going to install the kit temporarily (i.e. no drilling/cutting) and try it out for a few days to check that everything was ok.

I sent Dension customer support an email yesterday, asking them how to stop the annoying "accessory not supported" message that pops up every time the iPhone is docked. I've received a reply to say that it's not possible, but if the iPhone is not working then I should try the Power Booster (although it will not stop the message appearing).

So far, everything is working fine. Music, Bluetooth functions, steering wheel controls, phone, GPS are all working. The Battery logo changes to indicate that it is charging, but before I saw your post I did have a suspicion that it wasn't charging very fast.

I've emailed Dension back again to find out the exact purpose of the power booster and when to use it. I'll let you know if I receive a reply.

Would be good to know - I'll be putting my Gateway in next week!

I received a very short reply from Dension:
"for Gateway 300 BMW you need IPB2DIN"

I'm a bit loathed to take everything apart again, so I'm going to see how it goes without the booster first.
