Headlights on '06 & '07 models?
Have the headlights changed from '06 onwards? The orange band (indicator) on the headlights appears to be missing in all photos of newer z4's, the side indicator also appears to be clear instead of orange.
I'm just about to buy a z4 and would prefer the clear headlights and side indicator. Is this an extra or standard on new z4's?

Yes, the lights changed in (I think) 2006. The shape is (I think) slightly different and the indicators are clear. Not sure, but I think the rear lights list their "french fry" at the same time.

Clear head lights with the "old" shape rear lights were available in 2005 as well (late)

If that dealer actually proceeds to do the retrofit, they're in for a big surprise.Mark wrote:I spoke to a BMW dealer today (shortly after posting) and he said they can easily be retrofitted to earlier models that don't have the clear headlights/sidelights.
Post-'06 and pre-'06 headlights are not an easy swap, plug and play. Different wirings, headlights module, and programming are required for the headlights to function properly.

He'll be talking about fitting the 2005 lights - they were available as a retrofit (in the accessories brochure), there are some pics here I posted previously if you do a quick search on my username. They won't be fitting the 2006 lights, but that doesn't matter if all you want is the clear look anyway.Mark wrote:I spoke to a BMW dealer today (shortly after posting) and he said they can easily be retrofitted to earlier models that don't have the clear headlights/sidelights.

there's a '05 3.0L Z4 over here that has done the '07 angel eyes/xenon headlight retrofit
i can't recall what exactly was involved but there was definitely lots of custom wiring and i think a new LCM (light control module) had to be purchased.
so it can be done! i'll post back if i see the owner again.
cheers
