New wheels for the Roadster
The OEM CSLs lasted 4 weeks ..... But I bought them used as a temporary fix anyway as they are so easy to re-sell.
I've got my eyes set on a set of these
Schmieden Indivi. Forged magnesium alloy. The most amazing thing is, the 19X9.5 rear wheel weighs 8.9kg (19.6lb) each and the 19x8.5 front wheel 8.5kg (18.7lb). OEM BMW 18" MV2s weigh 26lb each.
I think they look great! And not too expensive, working out to £1300 for a set of 19"s.
Now, the hassle to get them over here from Japan ........

Just noticed the price actually, £1300 seems pretty good for magnesium wheels. I love the design - like I say just 'cos they're on half the Mk2 TTs already, and the Mk1 TT crew are fitting them too, so they won't look exclusive, although they are the real deal as opposed to £500 replicas. They will be awesome for showing off those huge stoppers you have though.peppernick wrote:If it saves me 4-5lb unsprung weight per cornerWondermike wrote: could you live with being an Audi fanboy
What about the 19s off the E92 M3, or will they be too heavy? Also, the 19s off the 335i look great too. The CSLs look really OEM.

They do look nice Nick! And will certainly make a change from the CSLs appearing on most Zs... although I'm staying with mine for now, albeit they may see a small change soon
Although have to agree with the others, since the latest round of weather I don't know if I could take the risk of Mag wheels with the potholes around here. Think they'd be bent within a mile!
Should still see a nice reduction from your current wheels - I think the rear CSLs weigh in about 10.8kg , so that's another couple of kg off the unsprung weight. If they stand up to the quality of UK Plc's roadmanship, they'll be a nice find for that money!

Some interesting information on these wheels ....
It's designed in Germany but manufactured by a company called using Taneisya in Japan.
http://www.taneisya.co.jp/
http://www.craft-web.co.jp/web/0609/0609.htm
Using world's strongest press machine set at 8000t. the press machine generates so much force that the factory needs to have concrete fundation down 30m underground!
Looking at their list of clients, it's staggering...OEM for several manufactures, and plenty of custom batches for Enkei, and Oz branded F1 wheels. The company has such good reputation I think I've picked a winner

I don't drive my Z everyday, and choose where I go with it (I don't go where roads are bad), so should be OKsixspeed wrote: Although have to agree with the others, since the latest round of weather I don't know if I could take the risk of Mag wheels with the potholes around here. I don't drive mine everyday either, but I know I've hit a fair few potholes on the B-roads around here, and with the H&Rs and 19" CSLs it makes me wince when it happens...
I might be mistaken, but I thought Magnesium wheels suffered from getting bent easily in road use. There might be different processes of making them though? I know back in my VX days, one guy had a set of Mag wheels fitted to his VXT, but they didn't last too long - and that was on a car that weighed 900kg! lol
Let us know how you get on though - very interested to hear the results still, esp with the weight saving.
