New purchase - Advice
Thanks for all your thoughts I’ve already test driven the 255bhp - 2litre
There’s also a 195bhp same money - but just has all Tech packs
My other dilemma is having always had 6cylinder Beamers - is it worth saving & and or adding too - and getting the M40i
Are there big differences - other than the obvious £4/5k additional cost ?

This wouldn't even be a question in my book, 6 cylinders all day every day!

If you will habitually use the power of the 6 cylinder, go for it. If not the 30i is more than enough for everyday use.
I work for a BMW dealership and often drive M cars, very rarely do I use them anywhere near their capacities.

Off to the dump on Tuesday, carries loads of stuff especially if its a fine dry day with the roof down. This time its a fireplace and granite hearth to make room for the new one. Should have some room for some old pieces of wood and a bag of garden leavesraymond.harper wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 7:02 am A rear-wheel drive sports car is great in the Summer but a liability in the Winter. Also of no use to carry anything to the dump!

I've had my M40i for nearly two years, it's been a most enjoyable, comfortable, relaxing and highly entertaining 30,467 miles. As a daily it's practical, economical and easy to drive. As a sports car the B58 is sublime with endless torque and super smooth, overtaking is a breeze. Lateral grip is immense, which is both good and not so good, as there's no slippage at legal speeds, the electric steering I would say is my only real criticism.
Just fitted the winter wheels shod in all season Conti's, with these on the car is great on frosty mornings or a few inches of snow. The Michelin Pilot super sports are not great when cold.

I've only driven the M40i but from what I've read in other forums it's a very different beast (in a good way) to the 4 cylinder versions. If you can afford it go for it !BMmad wrote: ↑Sat Nov 04, 2023 7:09 pm Thanks for all your thoughts I’ve already test driven the 255bhp - 2litre

I've owned my m40i for 2.5 years. I've done about 18k miles, ~10 trackdays, 1 NC500, two snowdonia (North Wales), multiple peak district, yorkshire moor and dale trips. In the past two months, weekly trip between Sheffield and Cambridge. Overall, very enjoyable experience so far for my use case. If you pick any one aspect, G29 is definitely not the best. But if you combine all of above together, the result is that I can comfortably (not as comfort as my G31) cruise at 70mph and achieve ~50mpg (not as eco as my G31) on the M1 to silverstone to enjoy a day of fun on track (my G31 can't even compete on this at all, but I agree that Boxter might be more fun here) and come home comfortably, then take my son with all the luggage to do NC500 with roof down during the summer holiday.
If you have the budget, go for m40i to enjoy the straight 6 as an extra bonus. But if not, B48 won't let you down.
If you ask package, well, mine only has comfort pack. Nothing else. I still enjoy it so much. But again, if budget allows, tick everything.

Unless you're the wife and drive Z4 as a daily. I would say G29 is pretty good daily. You can bring decent shopping home and even christmas tree. I even bought rolled grass once and brought it in the boot.Dave 2 dogs wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2023 9:54 pmthat’s what the wife’s car is for surely??MikeyH wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 9:10 amA g29 and a small vanraymond.harper wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 7:02 am A rear-wheel drive sports car is great in the Summer but a liability in the Winter. It's quiet on motorway, 2.0l engine is more efficient than expected. I did around 19K miles in less than 2 years in it and half of it was abroad.
