Keep an eye on correctly mounted taillights with pulled seals into the body.
And keep in mind, that this water will stay in the rails of the white body for the next few weeks after solving the water ingress. That takes some time as well as lots of towels and tissues.

Really disappointed for you mate, definitely going to take the shine off.

Having said that, if the car ‘was’ garaged but has been usurped by whatever replaced it then the previous owner may have been answering honestly (to the best of their knowledge) at the time you asked the question. The reason I say this is because, logically, surely you’d dry the boot out if you were deliberately trying to hide something and be underhand?

I don’t understand how anyone can misunderstand the question… ‘Are there speakers behind the seats?’ :headbang:

How bad (and obvious) is the crack in the rear light?, could this have been overlooked by the seller?

I’m not trying to defend the seller, he might be a complete Sh1t and might have been really underhand here, or he might genuinely be a bit bewildered… although the speaker question is still an odd one??

Hope you get it sorted mate, hopefully the seller isn’t in the ‘sh1t’ camp and reaches a compromise by offering a partial reimbursement

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt with the water TBH. When I asked if there was any water in the boot he may have just looked 'in the boot', although I did say around the battery compartment. But the speakers is black and white a lie.

I wish I had asked if it had rocket thrusters now, as I'm sure the answer would have been 'yes'.

So either the seller is unbelievably thick, or a liar, or both. Either doesn't help TBH.

To pi$$ me off even more; when I was siphoning the water out onto the drive, it froze and I slipped over on it!

That is an absolute bitch of a start. However I sympathise as I was also told i had a fancy sound system but I think it is in fact the standard one, as I too don’t have speakers behind my seats!!!! (2024 project?)

Good luck fixing it up. Think in the long term. One day you’ll have a great car in a rare colour and whoever you sell it to will have the benefit of full disclosure and your good work!

Thanks Robbi, will do.
I have a feeling it is something to do with the 'soft close' on the bootlid (trunklid) not engaging properly every time, so not pulling down on the sealing rubbers. I need to have a good look when it isn't below zero outside.

So Z number three...two of which were waterlogged! The E89 is nowhere near as bad as the Z3 was when I got it but it is 15 years younger and 2 1/2 times the price.

I asked him on the phone "does it have speakers behind the seats?". He answered "yes", that was good enough that it was at least the mid-range speaker system.
It hasn't got them, so that was a bare-faced lie.
Is it possible he might have thought you meant the speakers behind the seats on the sides i.e. the mid range speakers rather than subwoofers?

Sorry to read your tale of woe Andrew.

But once you've sorted the niggles it will be a great looking Z4 in an unusual colour.

again, if so he is thick. He stated in his advert it had the 'upgraded Hifi'. It doesn't, it has the basic 6 speakers. If you don't know don't 'upsell'!
He didn't know it has 'extended lighting', or 'extended storage'. I'm surprised he knew it was a BMW!

That's far too clever! :D
I was actually thinking I could keep a couple of Goldfish in there earlier, would be a good talking point. I could take an air pump supply from anywhere nearby (as in the battery terminals are only 6 inches above).

Appreciate your frustration but once things are settled & hopefully the jobs are not too costly you know the enjoyment you will have with the e89 otherwise you wouldn’t have come back to one

Here’s to a topless summer
