Facebook BMW Wheels: Simon Ireland
Thought I'd leave a review here on the set of 107 wheels I recently bought from Facebook's Simon Ireland. Simon deals in OEM wheels, refurbishing and selling on to those in need of a good secondhand set of wheels.
He's a nice bloke and after speaking via Messenger the deal was done and my wheels turned up within a few days. Unfortunately one of the protective boxes had been damaged by Paisley Freight and one of the wheels chipped and gashed, but Simon sorted for me and after sending the wheel back to him, got it fully refurbished, re-powder-coated and returned.
The only other issue I have is that two of the wheels are actually a slightly different silver to the other two - almost gloss grey like there's not enough sparkle in them (passenger side shot, below). Luckily its a front and a rear so they've both gone on one side of the car, but if you do purchase then do check the wheel colours when they arrive in daylight. I looked in a dark garage and they seemed fine, but the tyre fitter spotted it and alerted me to the colour difference.
I'm sure I could have emailed Simon again and he would have helped out, but to be honest I just wanted the wheels on the car and didn't want to box them all up again and send away!
Its really hard to show in photos (below) but there is a difference for sure and at some point I guess I'll need to get them repainted to all match.

They look good and you won't notice a difference with them on opposite sides of the car tbh.
However, I do have to say, given your concern over a slight difference in wheel colour, those bolts are an appalling letdown.

Oh, and if you really want to upset your OCD, he appears to have fitted the valve at the top of one, but the bottom of the other.

My thoughts exactly. They never get seen all at the same time but my OCD will win out eventually and I'll need to get them all done again in German Silver at approx £300 cost
And yes...those bolts will be changed at the same time for a new set of black ones. I didnt realise how bad they were until the new wheels were on

Oh god, my OCD wouldn't cope
They do look lovely though, great wheel choice.

Mine is definitely struggling with it, but using the opportunity of mismatched colour to exercise OCD restraint

Just thought I'd update this thread in case anybody else was thinking of doing the same as me and buying wheels from Facebook. I've now taken my wheels to Rimtec Wheels in Meopham to be stripped and re-powdercoated in BMW silver. It's effectively doubling the price of these wheels when I bought them from Facebook, but needs must and I cant live with mismatched coloured wheels
Rimtec Wheels called me today after I dropped them off on Monday. Apparently once they'd stripped the wheels of their powder coating they were "very corroded" so will be taking a little long to sort, prime and apply the new colour too.
I don't know what anyone else has had in terms of experience with wheels supplied from Facebook before, and I probably just got very unlucky, but do make sure you check your wheels when you get them otherwise you might end up like me....which you really don't want!

I’ve heard nothing but good things re. S.I.
Strange, maybe just pure bad luck.

I'm struggling to work out if this is a positive of Simon Ireland or a negative TBH.
Sounds like "he's a nice bloke but sells a shite product which you have to spend more money on to do properly" to me. Or am I missing something?

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Inkey$, I am sorry you have had to suffer this, but it does seem as though you have brought it upon yourself to some extent, unless there is more to the story. Why did you chose to pay for them to be re-refurbed rather than send them back?

Pondrew: Thats pretty much it - a bit of both. I got unlucky with the wheels I bought as I didn't do my due diligence, and decided not to package them back up and ask for them to be sorted or my money back. But equally, Simon I guess could have offered a partial refund to help me correct the finish when he found out they were not colour matched, which he didn’t when I let him know. The point of my post in the Dealer Feedback section, is go in with your eyes open and go back asking for some sort of compensation.
Zedebee: Indeed. My own urgency to get the wheels on after waiting a long time (wheels arriving, one damaged, sending it back, waiting for it to return etc), provided the end result. I could have asked for a partial refund from Simon, but at that point I was at my local wheel place, with all old wheels off and being told they were different colours. I just didn't have the energy to package back up, arrange/pay for another courier, hope they came back okay again etc. After a couple of months back and forth, naively thinking if I let him know then maybe he’d offer some money back. If it was me then thats what I’d do, but he didn’t.

The negative experience is a shame, and certainly something for others to consider.
As for you inkey$, chin up, the money will be forgotten soon enough and you'll be able to stare at those lovely wheels every day knowing they're just how you wan't them (until you curb them that is!). Take the positive and run with it

I had some 108's from Simon a few years ago and concur - top bloke and great service above and beyond. Wheels still look as good as the day I had them off him and no hesitation using again to be fair.
