Airbag control modules- help needed
Had another go at the Z4 airbag light today, matching main module part number put in from a known code free car.
Used the Launch scanner coding tablet to code the Vin number in but it failed to do it. Read the codes using INPA and that came back with 93DB Step up convertor defective and 93AB Incorrect Chassis number.
Codes cleared but return and airbag light remains lit up dosn't go out at all.
Did have a play with NCS Expert and Winkfp but couldn't get either to do anything with the module.
Run out of ideas now on what is exactly wrong to prevent the Vin number change. This is the second car thats presented these problems and so far I have drawn a blank trying to sort this problem. Have read all the posts on here as to how to change the Vin but nothing works for me. Suggestions welcome.

Suspect the left module is duff. Base of the b pillar under the carpet. Get the number off it and let us know. We can point you to the compatible replacement numbers.Rokas2017 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2023 5:37 pm Hey hi , I’m new here so yea what’s up I have one issue with my BMW z4 e85 2.2i it’s airbag light… 988f short circuit SBSL ..so my journey begins- seat cable connections new seat belt buckle g I checked the buckle with multi mitre) working properly airbag cable and still I have airbag light on … what’s else I don’t know and what’s wrong aw yea I tried delete that with obd2 … straight pops on again. That doesn’t compute?
The number you gave is for a facelift centre module but you say you have a 2.2 which were only prefacelift?

Ah that makes more sense, but I think from your previous description you need the LH one.
Pull the seat forward, lift the carpet behind it and look for a similar shaped module at the rear outside corner, where the floor starts to rise to the rear bulkhead.

Ok I'll check tomorrow, I'm actually looking more info about this problem and now I'm thinking maybe the seat capacity sensor is faulty ? Because the problem pops up after changing the car seats...

See this list from Realoem. You can replace with any that say Exchangeable retrospectively or Bilaterally exchangeable. Or of course, find one the same.
Whichever you do will need coding of the VIN and system time once fitted.
However, now you mention the seat swap you may want to look further at that first.
