DEAD battery and locked out!

Post by LilJuicyZ4 » Thu Jul 06, 2023 8:36 pm

Hey everyone! I need some help. I have a 2011 z4 35i with a completely dead battery. The manual key will not open the door either so I have no way of getting into the car to even try to charge it! Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it?

Long shot.
Battery cable goes through boot floor, must then run forward to starter, etc.
Might be able to get power on that and suitable negative point to apply power.
Large red cable going black round object.

Luggage well B+ terminal point.
I guess that goes through the floor to underside, then to front of car.

I'm sure I've read on here that you can remove one of the 'kidney' grills and get to the bonnet release catch.
That then gives access to the battery charging point

DEAD battery and locked out!

A while ago, I lubricated the manual key blade with a penetrating oil and worked it back & forwards in the lock until it turned easily.

I suspect some owners, whose batteries have failed, think their key 'won't work' when in fact the lock's just bone dry and dead tight.

Looking at the video at the mould/algae around the window rubbers and leaves in the engine bay, no wonder the key barrel was stiff

Definitely can't get to the two bonnet latches from the kidney grilles, there's no space. I once locked the boot with the battery disconnected. Luckily the bonnet was open and I got a set of jump leads to the connection there to one of my other cars, just enough juice to operate the central locking and open the boot.

Try the other key. Usually, the AA or RAC will have a "slim Jim" to open the door. Not sure if by removing the kidney grills you can get to the bonnet latches.

Dunno if the E89 is similar enough, but on the E85 you can get at the bonnet releases through the headlight access panels in the wheel arches.

This happened to me, my key was stuck. I lubricated the lock and worked the key left and right until it worked. Still hard to open with the key but I know it works. Had probably never been used
