Inspection 2 Cost

But that's the point, if they are made to BMW specs and are only available from BMW, then that to me is a genuine BMW part and I'm generally happy to pay for it and to also receive the 2 year fitted warranty on any genuine part.
If you can find out for me who makes the gasket for them then great, in the meantime I'll carry on using my 'genuine' parts :P

You seem to be now defending the stupidly expensive parts prices (that you don't want to pay from the original post).
I don't honestly care how much you pay for your servicing; I don't do it that way. I do it way, way cheaper and get the same results.

My point is that BMW charge way too much for everything, and 'specialists' are not exactly bargains either. It has a 'knock on' effect to the whole of the industry, which is why my local back-street mechanic owns a dozen classic Fords worth hundreds of thousands.

I don't quite understand why, or when, having a car serviced went from being another everyday expense to needing a re-mortgage TBH.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried

Mazda3 sold

I guess you didn't really read my post as you would see I do the servicing myself so don't pay anything. I do buy genuine parts where I see fit, 9 times out of 10 I don't find the small premium to be a big deal. Would I pay £15 more to BMW for a £50 rocker cover gasket from autodoc or whatever that is known to leak? Yes, quite happy to thanks.
My point in the original post was about the incredible price increase of the spark plug gaskets, this is unusual and whether this will also be reflected in the aftermarket I'm not sure. Assuming it's not I will not be paying BMW 10x more for a part, that is of course ridiculous. I have the next 3 inspection service parts already covered though so it will be some time before I have to use non genuine inside my engine!

I needed a new front undertray for my MC and got it booked in at RBM within 4 weeks last month - it could have been sooner if I didn't need a loan car.

In 2020 Ross replaced the bearing shells and engine mounts for less than that quote for an Inspection 2! And also did my Inspection 2 as well as removing the CDV, replacing the cam-chain tensioner, supplying and fitting Powerflex RTABs and fitting new Xenon bulbs for less than that quote!

ETA Feel free to PM me if you'd like specific numbers.

As per @boyo it was about a 3 month lead time from booking to actual service, however I think if I think had requested a shorter lead time they would have accommodated me.

I’ve recently booked mine in with Redish for bearings and insp2 and it was about a 4 week lead time.

They’ll want to do the inspection on a cold engine, so you’ll need to drop it off the day before. You might have to explain a night away from home too!

As long as you can get the car to Redish for first thing in the morning this should be sufficient time for the engine to cool, at least it was for mine when I had my Insp 2 at Redish back in April.
