Help - boot jammed

Post by Tiger78 » Wed Aug 16, 2023 8:50 pm

Hi everyone,

Working on my e89 tonight as the soft close had started to play up on the boot. Dismantled and found broken wire - great new wire soldered and refitted….however before connecting the power - the boot was shut….after loads of cursing/swearing I have opened the ski hatch but catch get enough reach to connect. I tried a small child but they would not fit through either :-) . Any help greatly appreciated ….

May want to verify this, but could you try connecting your jump points to power, either via ctek charger or jump leads.
Don’t start the car, but see if it will turn on, maybe that will give power to the boot mechanism.

Perhaps verify this with someone who knows more about complex car electronics, and if this is a good idea…

Your other option is to have it towed to a dealer / specialist.

Thanks but the battery is connected and the car starts etc. it’s the 5 plastic connectors that are not connected to the boot locking mechanism - still can’t believe I shut it ….

Are you based in the US?

I ask as they have legally mandated manual releases!

Well done A for perseverance..I guess you didn’t have many other options…
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Yes I was starting to panic - even to a point of nearly getting stuck in ski hatch….

A good saying comes to mind here:

"necessity is the mother of invention".
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!
