E89 N52 - Brake pad light does not go out after replacement

Post by Fabe_57 » Wed Aug 23, 2023 7:02 am

Hi,

I have a 2009 E89 23i and here's my problem:
The rear brake pad light appeared on the dashboard, so I changed the pads and the sensor (from Bosch) and do the reset but the warning still there.
iDrive said that everything is OK, 27000Km and 60000km before replacement for the rear and front pad, same thing on the dashboard but I still have the message that I must change the brake pad.

I first thought it was a sensor problem so I bought a brand new from BMW with no result.

Then I replaced both sensor (front and back) by a wire, unpluged the battery, wait half an hour, with no result.

I found someone with ISTA, I tried to reset the rear brake pad and it was a failure.
It has 2 faults, front and rear brake pad. When we delete them, it comes back.
It also said that the front pad are 90% and rear 48% (?) from new.

I checked the voltage on the sockets of the 2 sensors and they are both 10.7v, so I don't think it's a wiring problem...

The only thing I changed on the car was adding a MMI Android Auto box, I will try to uninstall it this week end, just to be sure.

I would be delighted to hear your opinions, I am demoralized, it does not go on the road anymore, it was refused at the French MOT because of that.

I think you have to reset it with ISTA with the electronic handbrake off and possibly with the doors closed, did you do this when resetting?

Early in ownership had this problem, ended up going to a Independent shop that used an Autel tool to reset.
Now i have a Foxwell tool, i'm sure that can do the same, but i left the sensors detached from brakes and just tied back, more trouble than they i worth for me.

Also i think it has a problem if you replace too early, it gets confused.
When it hits 400 miles to go, time to replace.
I let it go -400 and then had problems resetting.

A little updqte about my problem, I decide to go to BMW and they tell me that I need to change the DSC system.
It seems that it always throw the error even if the sensor are OK.
I'm quite lost as I don't have any DSC/ABS error, I can activate/deactivate DSC and for 1900€, I want to be sure that's the right thing to do.

Do you think that can be the problem ?

I think they are making a big meal at your expense..

I struggled to get this sorted..ISTA and Bimmergeeks Protool both refused to reset it..however my Foxwell 520 did!

Therer is siome very complicated data buses on the E89 and if they are not talking properly then this can happen..

I doubt very very much its the DSC unit..
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
A very modified Atacama Yellow 35is
