All in good time!
The car is filthy.. once I get it clean.
It's done more miles this last week, I think since I bought it months ago..

No chance to clean the car before heading out, but I at least got a photo on the fone:

BMW style 261 from the 2008 135i coupe.
7.5" front ET49 with 225/40. With a 12mm spacer.
8.5" rear ET52 with 245/40. With a 15mm spacer.

Since taking these, the car has been treated to a full wash and Fusso Coat seal.
The drive has been improved, it's quieter, softer and comfier. I can now really learn on it during the corners, without fear of the fronts rubbing on mid-corner compressions.
Koni Sport Yellow paired with Suplex M Sport springs seem to be a great combo (at least on the front, I've yet to fit the rears).

Meds 3.0si Coupe - Update - New wheels

Post by Meds » Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:27 pm

This evening was all about speakers and insulation inside the doors.

The grills in the door cards are empty, no speakers behind them. :(

I have a friend who's handy at speaker installs from back in the day, he's offered to wire in some original OEM BMW mid-range speakers turning my 6 speaker setup into an 8.

I have 4 days until he arrives, some time to get in there and do some preperation.

With the door card removed I was able to install the speakers.
I removed the membrane and insulated the outer door skin with 6mm sticky backed foam insulation. The same as I used in the boot.

Now, just wait for him to turn up with his tools to tap the mid-range into the tweeters, apparently, it's an easy job.

Meds 3.0si Coupe - Update: Door insulation and speakers

Post by Meds » Sun Dec 31, 2023 11:12 pm

Speakers are in.
Door skins insulated/deadened.
Doors reassembled.

I now have a lovely solid sounding thud when closing the doors, rather than the previous clank.
I'll need to report back later on any noise reduction, or not. It's horrible out there.

And the brief audio test was positive, I'm no audiophile but my untrained ears could tell an overall better sounding setup with the 2 additional mid-range drivers.

Today has been a good day!

Excellent . After reading your post about the foam insulation in boot I have done the same over the top of the Silentcoat and used rockwool for voids as Spriteracer suggested  Read some guides on doing the speakers and insulation in doors but wondering if you took any more photos as this is my next job to do ( hopefully ). I`ve only had the speakers for about a year or more

The insulation was easy.
But cutting away that membrane was a complete PITA. A few sliced fingers and much swearing.

Removing the door cad was easy.
I did the insulation in 2 half's. Top and bottom. Window up.
Top: cut only the top half of the membrane sealer away, unbolt the airbag and leave resting on a box or stoll so to not pull on the wire (I left them plugged in)
Attach foam to outer door skin.
Bottom: stick back the top half, bolt the airbag back in.
Then cut away the bottom half of the membrane sealer.
Fold up and attach foam to the outer door skin.

With regards to the speakers, I'm afraid I don't have much to offer, I pretty much left my mate to get stuck in.
All I know is he joined the mid-range speaker to the tweeter loom, before the tweeter connector. The tweeter wire after the connector was untouched.

Soldered and applied heat shrink, then used some thin foam tubing over the cables to stop any rattles. (We used internal cable insulation that is used on bicycle frames to stop the cables rattling.)

Everything is neat and tidy.
My only slight concern is the membrane effectiveness after me cutting the silicone and resticking. Especially around the tweeter area as the membrane ripped a little, also a small part down the bottom corner.

If I find a wet carpet, I'll order a new one and apply some new silicone.

Thanks Meds I shall add that to my notes . If you need to get some sealant enuff_zed, and bigwinn, recommend Tec 7 black sealant

Meds 3.0si Coupe - Update: BBK and fog light removal

Post by Meds » Wed Jan 10, 2024 11:19 am

Fog light blanking plates are in progress:

After a some plastic primer: (I do not read the Daily Mail! It's was the neighbours)

I have a tin of Montego Blue paint. Mixed by Martinbrownpaints.com. It's been handed down to subsequent owners and now with me. I've never painted anything car related before so this will either be a disaster, or work just fine.
I've no idea if it needs a clear coat, or not.?
Or if a soft paint brush will apply it well enough?
There's only one way to find out.

These bad boys are nearing install :D I'm waiting on the custom calliper brackets, then I can get busy.
Image

They'll look epic behind the dark grey 261m wheels.
They're the Brembo 6 pot BMW Performance option on the E9x 3 and E8x 1 series that I kept from my previous install. Also the standard offering on the 135i coupe before they moved to 4 pots.
A very popular upgrade with the E46 M3 guys.

I picked them up years ago from a guy who had them on his track Mini. Prior to that they used on 2x 130i track cars, so, needless to say, they were wrecked. A full strip down, 2 stuck/corroded pistons, 12 new pistons and seals, a professional refurb, new decals and also a helicoil thread install.
I have an emotional attachment to these.
