As the title asked. I’ve been ticking that it isn’t on my insurance quotes, but since they have been going up so much I thought I would check. It’s a saving of £50 a year. Not a huge amount, but it matters.
I went on thatcham website and it says that all z4 since 2003 have an approved alarm immobiliser cat 1.
So am I safe to tick the box that says I have one?

Although it’s not an approved tracker which I find strange, but I’m not installing one. The insurance discount just doesn’t make it worth while. Some cars demand it, but luckily not this one.

Just tick the 'manufacturer fitted' box, then the insurance company software will work it out.
Makes me laugh that we have to tell the insurance, when they have much more information about these things than us.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

So in prep for my renewal in just over 3 weeks, I did the usual and started looking on comparison sites. Prices are more than double what I paid last year. Crazy money. Around £2,400 with £750 excess. I will sell the car before I pay that.
And that’s not nearly as bad as what Range Rover insurance is. I have friends getting 14k renewals.

Mine went up circa 25 : 30% for each of the cars
I did. ask why and the excuse was “increased costs caused by inflation “.
From memory that was 10%

I've heard of £25k for Range Rovers. That's what you get by driving the UKs most stolen car, especially since it can be taken without even using relay theft. Electric cars aren't helping either, what with having to potentially be written off if their batteries are damaged, on top of the expense of storing them due to the gaps required between them and other cars to reduce fire risk. https://insideevs.com/news/676528/ev-in ... 0two%20EVs.ori wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:38 pmSo in prep for my renewal in just over 3 weeks, I did the usual and started looking on comparison sites. My insurance for my M40i was £470 this year with a £500 excess and that includes breakdown cover. I'm curious as to what I'll be quoted this time.

I’d kill for a quote like that.
I live in London and my premiums are double what it would be outside London.
Car thefts are through the roof and as you say electric cars haven’t helped the situation.

Bike quote trebled despite no change in my circumstances. Managed to get it down to just over last year's price by switching insurers.
Already got a reminder on phone for a month before the renewal date on the zed.

While waiting for my renewal quote to land from my existing insurer I had a quick look on GoCompare. Definitely a rise from last year. Whereas I was getting breakdown cover and a £500 excess for £470, there are less features now and a bigger excess. But the quotes are in the same ball park so it's not as bad as I feared. This is for an M40i within the M25 but not in London. The car isn't garaged but is parked on a drive. Maximum no claims, clean license.
