BMW Connected Drive on E89 (UK people)

Hi

UK people...
You all probably know but just discovered that this is now free of charge (whatever it does, hoping it has a make-you-a-coffee-when-its-below-freezing function)
https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/shop/ls/dp/Base_RemoteOffer_gb

Just tried to register my 2015 E89 however when I go to my idrive it doesn't give me the code so can't register it. Anyone got this working?

Thanks, Tony

That won’t work on E89s..it needs to be a F series minimum …usually G series..

Oh right, pity. When I popped into a main dealer garage about a year ago they seem to know live data about lots of things about my car eg how much petrol I had left. Is there another way of getting this remotely from an app? Clearly of no use, but hey lol!!! Thanks.

The newer cars have some sort of sim card which can transmit the data to the app.

No doubt all the same data is on the e89 but there is no sim card built into the car.

You would need a physical connection to obd2. There is a some obd2 bmw dongle which they made that connects to an app, but you need the car on and the dongle in for it to work I think.

Interesting, yet BMW have access to this data. I think they just needed my key?

Yup all they ever do with mine is plug the key in to a reader on the desk.

SIM cards were put in each BMW as of 2003 beginning with the 5-series E60/61 (maybe already earlier on the 7-series). So even these "newer cars" maybe already 20 years old. :poke:

Just noticed in Ireland, Remote Services are now available Free Of Charge which allows basic monitoring, open/lock car and send destinations to the NAV, which is really handy as Irish Post Codes do not work on my e89…. (It says the Remote services, teleservices and intelligent emergency call is unlimited for the duration of the technology being available.)

Connected Drive on the E89....

Not a lot really, requires an iPhone (doesn't work with Android) or ipad (sim). Gives you Spotify app with Album Art etc. Apart from that nothing else useful anymore, unless someone else can come up with one :?

May give more useful stuff on the F and G series :tumbleweed:

Go ahead..make my day!

I think you'll find that you need a 'combox' of the BN2000 variant to be fitted..I don't think they were ever fitted to E series cars..
