That’s the chespo Chinese version with the G29 personality..this is the expensive Smurf aka Dutch product with multiple personalities

Ahhh, retirement, and nothing else to do but to either scratch your family jewels all day or tinker in the garage.

Say, does the missus know where her beach towel is ? You're so much trouble, mister.

Quite so..personally I like scratching my jewels whilst tinkering

The cloth is my old dressing gown / smoking jacket so no blast damage.

My wife has 3 horses and we are struggling with a very wet winter..so I’ve been reconfiguring stables, paddocks, repairing horse trailers as well as dealing with mains outages and septic tank failures…so this s**t is small beer..and my credit is good with SWMBO

It’s worse than that Jim..

My buddy in Italy also with a yellow 35is is doing the exact same retrofit…he’s kept the dashboard in place..but he’s struggling as well.

Here’s my wooden mock up of the ID4Motion screen to help with initial set up.

Called it a day..by this time the dash is looking like a guyere cheese.. :headbang:

I appreciate that this may be a daft question, but have you contacted ID4Motion to ask them about it? :D

Yes piss poor support..they have no idea..the instructions are inaccurate and missing in places..

Hmmmm, not changed then!
When this screen first came out for the E89 I contacted them to see if it was possible to create a video installation. They eventually replied 18 months later, to which I told them to shove it, if that's how good their support was then I wanted nothing to do with them.
It's a shame because it looks a great unit, and now knowing how little I had to remove for the Chinese one it wouldn't have been as bad as I first thought, or so I thought!!
There is an owner, possibly on the US site, that lives somewhere in Europe that had them fit one to his E89 and was singing their praises of it, but I suppose you can when you don't have to do the work yourself.

I hope you get there mate and get it all working

Tis a real shame it’s such a pig to fit as it looks a great unit, would really freshen up the an E89.

I’d love a crack at fitting one, be great to get something to fit….that doesn’t…

Only problem is personally there’s no way I could be without the car on the road for any length of time more than a few days…I need a roof down fix couple of times a week minimum…. :driving:

So I’ll keep watching the guinea pig struggle….then pop one in when you’ve hit the Eurika moment…best of luck…it’ll happen… :driving:

The guy I think is in the Middle East..he posted a ‘fitting’ video..which was anything but..about as much use as a chocolate teapot..heh ho.

Day 3..finally got a trial fit..my poor dremel has had a few tiring days…

Here’s a few static pics plus a YouTube link…. https://youtu.be/q2z9V6H6chE?si=8waufCWyKE_RDpTe

The key point that emerges is you have to take the top cowl off the instrument cluster, then fit the new ID4 cluster to the removed top cowl, then refit the top cowl to the dash..

The issue is the 4 of the 6 screws are hidden..two are easy, one difficult, three almost impossible..

My friend in Italy fitting his to another Atacama Yellow LHD 35is has lost his temper and butchered the fittings and glued the whole thing together.

ID4Motion Digital Instrument Display for E89s

I’d like to give an initial report on the ID4Motion digital cluster now that I’ve driven the car for a few miles.

https://youtu.be/BfiaNa4uGf4?si=iEqaBIcWpi70Kgt9

https://youtu.be/YFth_72r2Cg?si=oiLuwHM3MAM1ULt2

I shot a couple of videos to illustrate it in the car working.

So to address the obvious point..the reflection you see in videos really doesn’t present itself as a driver..yes if you change your focus then you can see a reflection of yourself ..you could address this with a matt overlay they provide …I tried it and yes no reflections but the crispness and clarity of the display is diminished somewhat.

The graphics are truly fabulous, the animations are nice without being tacky..it just oozes class.

After some misunderstanding on my part about the menus I got the unit set up ..there are many configuration options.

I set up a modern take on the traditional E90 cluster for my normal day mode, a night version in a lovely blue for lights on and a more modern later M series style for sports mode. The day versions I didn’t like as much as the night version..you can see both in the videos.

You can only have one sports theme assigned at the moment…so pushing the sport button, left push on the DCT shift or sports+ all trigger the same theme..you can choose that the theme is selected only with either the shift DCT or pressing sport/sport+…I’ve done it with both..

So much pain on the journey..if it had been discussed I’m not sure how that would have influenced my views.

It appears that despite numerous complaints from others that in the E89 the cluster seems to play ok with most of the rest of the car the new Mr 12 Volt MMI box causes more issues with the CIC unit…

So yes, it’s lovely but not without issues..
