Well, the wife's made a decision, so I've probably made the same one. The posts to this thread have helped, too. Some a lot.

With the insured warranty, the 35iS has served very well for 80k miles/7 years. Replacing it is difficult, not least because it's out of production, of course, but also because there aren't many more than 400 left in the UK. (I carry firearms, so can't use a traditional convertible and am limited to hard-top.)

Melbourne Red/Ivory White Nappa/18" 5-spoke wheels also make the best looking E89 I've seen (including at a Zed Fest). Parked with the roof down, people still look at it and even comment on it. Finding one as good-looking is very difficult.

Bearing in mind it's a quick (0-60/less than 5s - when new) cruiser but not a sports car, it drives very well & safely on Pirelli P Zeros (36/44psi), which last easily over 20k miles and it does 26.4mpg on the dial.

So, I'm going to dispose of the guns and buy a new 2-litre G29.

Agh! Typo. Sorry. Am going to keep the 35iS until another one just as good comes along, if at all. In the meantime, the wife's Fiesta needs to go. Any recommendations?

We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
A very modified Atacama Yellow 35is

Brilliant

Guns??!! It’s a tough choice when you’re a hired assassin! Or you’re firearms plod (who get the pleasure of a BMW X5 in these parts)

Sounds like you need a RR vogue with the full country set makeover (gun case beautifully crafted into the rear)

Seriously, a replacement for the Fiesta??? JL has had many cars and is currently running a Fiat 500 Riva, lots of retro loveliness but it’s, well, a bit Fiat. That car followed a similarly retro Beetle and a trio of Minis. For the money I’d go for a VW Up! / Skoda Citigo / SEAT Mii. Bought one for our daughter and it’s a terrific car. Lovely to drive, lots of space. Frugal. Simple to service. Cheap to insure/tax and lots of choice. My money goes for the VW Up! GTi however Liv has the Mii and it comes with lovely (edit: spelling corrected) alloys, leather steering wheel, metallic paint, aircon and £20 RFL

Brilliant decision IMO miss mine my 2009 DCT 35i which sold recently. Similar situation to you, it had full BMW service history and BMW Insured warranty. Bought in pandemic after drive( in passenger seat) in horrendous thunderstorm in Nov 2020. Owner delivered it to my house and didn't drive it until 2021. First thoughts was that I had made a massive mistake- creaky roof, bumpy ride (even with EDC). on runflats and not a patch on my E46 330ci. BUT after getting all the problems sorted- 2 claims on insurance policy and non runflaats Goodyear tyres put on it a completely different car.
Only thing I would add is when the car is due to tick over 60k miles change it from a annual one to monthly payment Only then get an inflation increase not a review. Mine went up from about £40/month to about £43/month total£516p.a.) with comprehensive. £250 excess but just normal breakdown cover) Would have saved you £500p.a.for last few years.
Policy has restrictions but I had excellent service- car only covered if more than mile (or whatever) from home. Coolant leak in garage and roof not working (stuck part way) they still did a home visit and relayed car back to dealer(coolant) or fixed it(roof)
Pity service from dealers was very poor by comparison (but part during pandemic). After major 4 year service(at 50% discount as a result of poor service) all niggles were finally resolved. Superb car to drive and first occasion=n somewhat had commented what a good looking car it was.
Keep us up to date - still watch forum even without the 35i

Depending how much you like the car I would:

Keep the car and buy another toy or

sell the car and save a little more and buy A110 or Alfa 4C.

You would, though, being a 'land owner'. Keeps the peasants off your estate (not pheasants, peasants)! :D

Keep the remainder of your £35k in the bank at 5% and go on a cruise next year on the interest!

Right...that's that topic sorted.....NEXT! :D
I had an MX5 with the folding hard roof before I switched to the E89 28i. The E89 feels a much more 'grown up' car and I wouldn't consider going back. For anyone who gets any MX5, watch out for RUST!!!!!!!!!!!
