pvr wrote: Fri Dec 22, 2023 4:33 pm Ok, I would not approach it from the boot as in a roadster that doesn't work, but I would remove (hinge) the centre console from the inside and get to the back of the DVD player. The cable can be tucked on the side of the console, I took the first time the console apart but that is not required. Subsequent times I simply removed the side screws from the left side of the tunnel and pushed the cable up as you have enough space to do so.

I would not want the controller under the handbrake, so need to think of something better (for me at least).
My apologies, the roadster would be different. I haven’t had any experience with stripping those yet. I wonder if the Bluetooth and tv tuner locations are also different.
In the coupe, the navigation cables come from the boot, into the cabin. So I would assume they are also coming from the boot into the cabin, behind the nav unit.

On the roadster they do, but no access from the boot really so the trick is to do it from the inside. Not difficult to do though. I would mount the tv tuner there as well where the cd changer would normally be, I would not do it in the boot. I assume the tv tuner is not too big (ie smaller than the cd changer ?)

The BT module is all the way on the left standing in front of the boot.

ok price me up with the below please baris

i WILL need the cable as i want to be able to switch back to the original nav setup to adjust the DSP if and when needed. , the bracket plus the smaller i drive unit which looks fine to me and well worth the slightly ugliness to turn this nav into basically a modern setup thus imo making it once again a desirable option.

do you have any pics of the actual android box and its size ( im taking this installs in the backet ) ? looks like i'm ready for a winter project, ill document the install in a yt video for my business channel.
You can still access the DSP and all functions if you don’t add the retrofit cable. The display will then be controlled by the tv tuners interface. The interface is different. Some refer to it as the Atari display.
I attached photos.

Everything is installed inside the tv tuner. See attached image.

I only have 1 of the smaller controller kits, so it will be first come first served and I will order more if people are interested.

Best to contact me directly, so it’s easier to keep track of things.

There should be access somewhere from the boot into the cabin.

Tv tuner and cd changer are about the same size.

There is a very small hole to the boot, but no benefit to get to that as you can’t get the cable undone from there.

baris, PMd you.

slightly confused on the cable and if i need it or not....

IDEALLY id like to install this how it would be done from factory i.e in the proper TV tuner location as i actually still play CDs

definitely want the smaller I. Drive unit.

im assuming this unit will literally bolt into the stock location with the bracket.

whats the damage and how / where do i pay

Anyone got any pics of the back end out of the roadster with DSP so i can see where this all goes?

The way the system works, is like a computer desktop. You have your dummy monitor up front. You have your brains for the sound via the radio, with some having the extra option of DSP amplifier to pump the sound better.
The monitor display and processor comes from the navigation, and general control of the menus is controlled via the radio, for the navigation.

So disconnecting the navigation and connecting the tv tuner, is replacing the processor and operating system. Only difference is, you lose original navigation option and the graphics are older style.

By the way, everything will still work like normal, cd changer, radio etc. You can hop back into the OEM system, and change the mode. You can then hop back into carplay, and listen to cd or your radio, whilst using Waze or google maps, except no sound for navigation, because you have come out of aux mode.

The part number for the bracket is the same for both coupe and roadster, according to realoem.

I’m not sure where the roadster tv tuner is suppose to go, but the coupe version is straight forward. The instructions went overboard, you don’t really need to remove navigation unit, you can reach the connectors from the boot, in the coupe.

Great to know this is now an option. This is something I will add to my list of mods to do. I don't like where the i-Drive controller is currently, so I'd see if I could put a smaller one near the window switches on the drivers side - I believe it would look more OE and feel more ergonomic/actually allow you to use the buttons with the car in motion and not just the knob.

In an ideal world where I would have the time and money, I'd fit a new LCD to the 'pop up' screen to make better use of the space so there's an even surround and slightly more modern aspect ratio. Spent a while at uni making screens fit in in steering wheels for formula student.

It’s not necessary, as long as you don’t mind losing the original navigation.
I would be providing the tv tuner, with the carplay installed. If you want to keep the navigation option and menu style, you would need the tv retrofit loom.

Thanks Baris - that is good to know - I would want to keep the oe Navigation, so will need the loom also, and the modified microphones so the carplay sits alongside the oe setup which operates unaffected.

great work in figuring all this out.

Will be in touch in the new year to get this sorted.
