:rofl: You're using the OE microphone.
All of the grey boxes use the OE mic, as long as you connect the, included, lead.

mr12volt install - CD changer coding advice

Do you know if this is all accessible from the bimmercode app?

I switched the CDMM changer to the mp3 value and i can see multiple empty CDs in the head unit (so it worked) but no mr212volt interfaces appears.

It was only a quick trial so will look again tonight.

Edit: the mr12volt box is 'on' as the light is lit and I can see it via Bluetooth

CDMM_ CHANGER_3 is in the file from CIC.

CDMM_ CHANGER_3 is in the file from CIC.
Adding 672 to the VO gives you the multiple CD's, as this adds CD Multichanger to the iDrive, thus changing it from one CD (headunit) to 6+ (Multichanger + headunit).
Changing the value of CDMM makes it so it'll recognise MP3's, thus allowing the Mr12volt box to show up (normally in CD1 slot).
So as long as you have 672 coded and added to the CAS, NFRM and CIC (definitely already in CIC as you have multi CD's) and have changed the value in CDMM_CHANGER_3 (make sure it's definitely 3, as there are others) from cdc_vorbereitung to mp3_cdc then it should all work.
Sometimes it does take a moment to appear and sometimes you need to press CD1 option (may even say Mr12volt).

Have you muted the head unit as that then only shows the cd screen.

A very good point indeed, as I've done this on installation before :headbang:

Head unit not muted, I've toggled it on and off.
Still nothing :(
@anubiszed - can I change the VO value with bimmercode, do you know? What is that value?

Alas I don't work with Bimmercode, so I don't know how it operates, hopefully someone who does can explain better.
But if you didn't have the multiple CD positions before, and you do now then I'd say you've done something with the VO already.
Just to check, you have done tge following:
Disconnected the Pink LVDS plug from the rear if the headunit and plugged it into the new Y LVDS, and the plugged the other end of the new LVDS cable (greeny blue) into the pink socket of the headunit.
You've unplugged the MOST connector from the old Quadlock connector, then having swapped it into the new MOST Y jumper, plugged the new end into the new Quadlock in the rear of the headunit?
So as your phone can see the Mr12volt box then you are obviously using the new Quadlock Y loom, as this is powering it, so I was wondering if you'd missed some connector out somewhere (as questions above)

Aaaaasand it was as easy as that.

I'd plugged the MOST connector into the old quadlock instead of the quadlock in the back of the media unit. I only noticed as it was dark out so could see the flashing red light from the back of the unit.

Also the suggestion of @anubiszed had it bang on!

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated.

No time to feed all the wires and take apart gloveboxes tonight - probably one for the weekend.

mr12volt install - CD changer coding advice

Post by fatbaldboy » Tue Dec 12, 2023 4:25 pm

So in summary to my original ask:

I bought a fairly (I think) expensive obd adaptor for £85:
https://amzn.eu/d/55tzfja

I bought the bimmercode app for I think around £35.

My car was already prepped for cd changer from factory. You can see if yours is using mdecoder.com and looking for s694 in the multimedia section.

Using bimmercode to enable the unit to recognise mp3s then makes the multi CD appear in your idrive menu. That's where the MMI unit should show up.

Bimmercode instructions (thanks @b21)
From the 'home' screen of the app:
Headunit -> Expert Mode (toggle) -> 3000 HMI
Find CDMM_CHANGER_3 option and change it to mp3_cdc
CODE -> START CODING

You can code the cd changer using bimmercode.

Not sure it's cheapest way but I'm happy.

To add the changer using bimmercode...

From the 'home' screen of the app:
Headunit -> Expert Mode (toggle) -> 3000 HMI
Find CDMM_CHANGER_3 option and change it to mp3_cdc
CODE -> START CODING
Err that’s what I told you in reply to your original post…. :tumbleweed: :headbang:

Tips for coding with Bimmercode
Headunit -> Expert Mode -> 3000 HMI
Find CDMM_CHANGER_3 option and change it to mp3_cdc
CODE -> START CODING
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
