Z3s shooting up in value

Post by Mike6 » Wed Dec 20, 2023 5:57 pm

Just been reading that the Z3 is the second highest climber in value this year and have doubled in price, presumably for the more desirable models. Wont be long before the Z4 follows?????

Z3s shooting up in value

Saw that on another forum. It was in the Daily Mail, though!
The Vauxhall Calibra is also in the top 10 climbers with a 25% rise in value.....gone from £40 to £50. :D
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Value of good Z4 6cyls are up on last year, next spring could see more too, no reason to be downbeat at all.

I would be interested to see the evidence for that TBH.
Asking prices maybe, selling prices?...not convinced.

Prices of cars across the board do seem to be holding strong, though. So much for the 'cost of living crisis'.

    Cavalier coupe? Really? I mean...really?

I had a work associate who had a 2.5 back in the early 2000s (they were old even then). He thought it was the everyday equivalent of a Fezza. He would not hear a bad word said about them. We stopped conversing very soon after! :D

Pipe dreams. Part of the appeal of the Z4 is its extraordinarily good value. Let’s hope it’s stays that way so that die-hards can continue to enjoy low cost motoring and zero depreciation. There’s no point selling your Z4 “for a profit”, you’ll only want another

My sister bought a Calibra back in the mid-90s and while it drove like a Cavalier it was much better looking! I imagine they are only going up because there are so few left.

Which may be true of Z3s too!

Whereas there are still loads of 6 cylinder Z4s around so for now only the rarer models have a chance of going up in value, although they are still worth much more than they were 4 years ago before prices took off after lockdown. :o
    Coupes because stunning!

It isn't. They are not going up in value. People are asking silly money for them but they are not selling at those figures.
It's the (now common) idea of "if it's old and still working it must be an appreciating classic so must be worth a small fortune". Absolute rubbish.

Z3s are just old. They are not old enough to be classics but they are modern enough to be expensive to fix and have lots of electronics. And they rust. And they are fugly. And they leak. And they are not fun to drive. And I don't like them!

So it's probably fair to say you aren't a fan of them then!

I'm not sure why you'd want to use one as the basis of a Ferrari replica in that case. :?

As you say some asking prices are ambitious, plenty of cheap early cars that have issues, good low milage cars are not numerous. I changed to an 07 2.5auto 15 months ago, today good ones are asking £6k plus, even at £500 off it’s still 25% more than I paid.
A soft top sports car is a toy, compare with older classics (MGB, Stag etc) E85 is good value and a lot nicer to drive

Some Z3s are going up in value but only minter low mileage examples. Z3MRs and Coupes have been fetching silly money for some years now.

The problem is there's an awful lot of tired rubbish examples out there now

No choice. It is the car that the one I want is based on, so won't fit any other. It's not all bad, though. The build quality is pretty good TBH and most things are fairly simple. The roof, for example, is a piece of cake. And a 10mm socket and phillips screwdriver will take the thing back to a bare shell! :)
