9 Years of Ownership

Post by patriot66 » Fri Jan 12, 2024 5:17 pm

It's just dawned on me that 9 years ago yesterday I bought my E85....where did the time go ? ! :o Doesn't time fly when you're having fun ? I've loved every minute and every single mile of the 52,000 I've added to the odometer. It's on 105,000 now and running better than ever, the last 10,000 with extra supercharged vigour :D I had no intention of keeping it this long but it just slowly got under my skin and a few subtle and sympathetic performance/cosmetic modifications along the way have kept things interesting. I received a very generous offer for it and I almost sold it in June '22 but eventually saw sense...I just couldn't part with it ! It's definitely a keeper.
I'm using it almost daily at the moment. It still makes me smile. It still feels 'special' when I get in and turn the key. I still look back when I walk away....every time !

A much loved car..it’s been a pleasure to see it out and about..your work both on the cosmetic stuff and the hard core engineering work on the supercharger is a credit to you..

To the next 9 years :driving:
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Yours looks great and has some impressive upgrades - enjoy.

I had a wobble back last year and thought about selling albeit only for a day or two as I’d become a grandad and my Zed a tad impractical. I’ve now been added to my daughter’s car insurance and get to use her Saburu Forester to ferry my little granddaughter about in. I’m sure she’s going to love grandpa’s Zed when she’s old enough to be my co-pilot.
I’ve had three Zeds since 2014 and I’m still obsessed, a truly unique car, regularly turns heads and there’s nothing else quite like it on the road. The only change I think I’d ever make is back into an E85.

Happy Zedding Patriot, you have a stunning Zed

That Z4 looks stunning and I admire your ‘stickability’.
When I buy a car I often intend to keep it for a good length of time, whether it is a ‘daily’ or a ‘fun’ car. My wife just laughs at me now as the number of cars I have had over the years reaches eighty. I dread to think of how much money I have spent. But one thing I do know is that I have loved having them all.

80 cars ! Wow, that's some going ! :o I've had 21 in the 40 years I've been driving, the Z4 completely unintentionally being the one I've owned longest. 'Stickability' ! I like that ! Thank you :D

I passed my test in1963 and my first car was a 1956 Morris Minor which I bought with money earned from a holiday job. I paid £125. Now in my 80th year I have an E89 Z4 and a year old Cooper S Countryman which is due to be replaced in March with new JCW Countryman. I have promised my wife we will keep this one for at least two years.

I have the same feels - Even though it's only a 5 grand, 20 year old BMW, I still feel like I'm driving something a bit different and special. And glad I'm not the only one who has to have a cheeky look over my shoulder, every time I park her up!

Hope you're well and maybe catch you at a meet again this year

Hi Tony. They ARE special ! :D Just a small retro-styled, U.S built, German 'bitsa' sportscar (bitsa this and bitsa that) BUT it is MUCH greater than the sum of all its parts. Very special indeed
Good to hear from you. I'm very well thanks, hope you are. Not got much Zed'ing planned for this year so far but hopefully bump into you somewhere
